AI in your car - Apple CarPlay might soon boast ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini support

According to a report by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, a recent tidbit shared by an anonymous source appears to indicate that Apple CarPlay users might soon be able to utilize AI assistants such as Claude and Gemini.
The report states that the Cupertino giant is considering allowing third-party voice assistants to work inside the CarPlay interface. Until now, Siri was the only voice assistant which was allowed to function inside CarPlay.
Needless to say, Siri's performance has been a point of debate for years, with the infamous voice assistant having consistently lagged behind the AI giants, even more so in recent years. An overhauled Siri with much-improved capabilities powered by Google's Gemini is on track as well.
However, even if the company does end up allowing Anthropic, OpenAI, and Google to make CarPlay apps for their AI-powered voice-based chatbots, it is unlikely to allow the Siri button to be replaced, or allow users to change the trigger word for voice commands. Therefore, those who desire to use third-party chatbots will have to open the apps separately.
Unsurprisingly, there is no word of confirmation or indication from Apple surrounding the implementation of these features. As always, unconfirmed plans are subject to change.
