Ever since its inception in late 2018, the Epic Games Store has been doling out a healthy dose of free games from time to time. Most of them are indie titles or older games that very few people would purchase in the current year. Only recently, it surprised everyone by handing out free copies of Square Enix's Just Cause 4 to the public. It appears that there is yet another mega giveaway scheduled for later.
According to a now-deleted Tweet from the official Epic Games Store account states that Grand Theft Auto V will be free on the platform for a week, meaning that you can redeem the game on your account till May 21st. There's even a countdown timer on the Store page of the launcher that shows a 'mystery game.' Death Coming -another title that is free on the platform- can only be redeemed on accounts that have 2FA enabled on them, and GTA V will likely follow suit. And yes, the game will be yours to keep forever once you've redeemed it on your account.
With a release date of 2013, GTA V is by no means a new game. It is one of Rockstar's best selling title both in terms of number of copies sold and in-app purchases. So, it is hardly surprising that Rockstar agreed to give it away for free. One can easily eke out hundreds of hours worth of gameplay from the single-player campaign alone, making it an excellent stay-at-home companion. It has a vibrant multiplayer community too, and that number will most certainly blow up once people start redeeming their free copies of the game on EGS.
