GPD is preparing to refresh the Win 5. Announced shortly after the release of the comparable OneXFly Apex, the GPD Win 5 will soon match its OneXPlayer counterpart with up to 128 GB of RAM. Also, this higher memory capacity will be complemented by a fresh 'Panda' colour option.

GPD became the first company to actually release an AMD Strix Halo-powered gaming handheld in September when it brought the Win 5 to Indiegogo. Despite AMD announcing the Ryzen AI Max 385, Ryzen AI Max 390 and the Ryzen AI Max+ 395 almost a year ago, most gaming handheld manufacturers have leveraged less powerful Strix Point and Lunar Lake alternatives, or the truly underpowered Ryzen Z2A that powers the Asus ROG Xbox Ally (curr. $599 on Amazon).

As we discussed at the time, GPD offered the Win 5 with a choice between Ryzen AI Max 385 and Ryzen AI Max+ 395 APUs. However, the latter could only be configured with up to 64 GB of RAM, unlike the newer OneXFly Apex. With OneXPlayer releasing the OneXFly Apex on Sunday with up to 128 GB of RAM, GPD has confirmed plans to respond in kind.

Writing on X, GPD has clarified that 128 GB editions will be available via Indiegogo's InDemand service. Designed to allow companies to keep raising money while starting production, InDemand is still crowdfunding rather than a retail purchase. Moreover, the company has confirmed that the addition of 128 GB RAM SKUs will be joined by a second colour option.

Described by GPD as a 'panda' colour, the white colour option mirrors the finishes in which the Win 4 and Win Mini are now available. All buttons retain the same finishes and colours as the black version of the Win 5, though. Unfortunately, GPD has not clarified when the Win 5 will reach InDemand status yet.
