YouTuber ETA Prime has shared a detailed look at the Lenovo Legion Go 2, focusing on its performance and thermal management. The handheld gaming PC, powered by AMD’s Ryzen Z2 APU, is currently the cheapest in Lenovo’s second-generation Legion Go range.
The Legion Go 2 offers several performance profiles, allowing players to tune TDP (Thermal Design Power) depending on the use-case. In Quiet Mode, power draw is capped at 8 W, suitable for 2D games and emulation. Balanced Mode raises this to 16 W, while Performance Mode reaches 20 W on battery and slightly higher when plugged in. A Custom Mode enables short-term boosts up to 45 W (FPPPT for 10 seconds), 37 W (SPT for 2 minutes), or a sustained 35 W (SPL).
Players can further fine-tune fan curves and access quick performance adjustments through the built-in Legion Space menu, which also provides instant toggles for refresh-rate (60–144 Hz), brightness, Bluetooth, and performance monitoring tools.
In benchmarks, ETA Prime recorded a Geekbench 6 score of ≈ 2,444 (single-core) and ≈ 11,000 (multi-core) in Performance Mode. In 3DMark Time Spy at 25 W TDP, the Legion Go 2 scored 3,285 points, placing it slightly above Ryzen Z1-powered devices.
Game testing revealed:
- Forza Horizon 5 (1200p, medium, 16 W TDP) averaged ≈ 73 FPS.
- Cyberpunk 2077 (1920×1200, FSR Frame Gen on, 25 W TDP) reached ≈ 84 FPS.
- Elden Ring (1600×1000, medium, 25 W TDP) remained smooth between 57–59 FPS.
- Borderlands 4 (800p, low + FSR Frame Gen, 30 W TDP) proved more demanding, showing occasional ghosting artefacts.
According to ETA Prime, the Ryzen Z2 variant trails the Z2 Extreme slightly at lower TDP levels but retains strong efficiency and playable frame rates for most AAA titles. The Legion Go 2, currently priced at US $1,099.99 at Best Buy, features an 8.8-inch OLED 144 Hz display and detachable controllers, delivering a premium build quality despite its ‘entry-level’ positioning. However, some users might prefer alternatives like the MSI Claw 8 AI+, currently listed for US $1,184.85 on Amazon, which ships with more RAM and a more powerful APU for a slightly higher price.
