AMD made the Strix Halo line official at CES 2025, and so far, many companies have announced products featuring the new Zen 5 APUs, including a handful of mini PCs. However, none of the compact computers have hit the market yet, and it seems that the wait won't be long.
GMKtec has just announced that it will be launching the 'world's first' AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395 mini PC in China on March 18, 2025, the EVO-X2. The announcement didn't give much away about the new Strix Point mini computer, but it did hint that the design would be quite similar to the EVO-X1, one of the smallest mini PCs that features Ryzen AI 9 HX 370.
The announcement poster also hints that there could be some changes to the connector layout, which may be because of a beefier cooler. While it's not confirmed yet, mini PCs featuring this AMD Strix Halo APU are said to reach up to 140 W. The EVO-X1, in comparison, can offer a 70 W peak TDP.
Regardless of the max TDP, the Strix Halo mini PCs are expected to offer a noticeable performance uplift when compared to their Strix Point counterparts. Just recently, ETA Prime put a prototype mini PC featuring the Ryzen AI Max+ 395 to the test, and it faired reasonably well in 1440p gaming, thanks to the Radeon 8060S iGPU.
While that means that the top-end Strix Halo mini PCs will be great picks as gaming systems without dGPU, these are expected to be quite pricey. For reference, the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 offerings launched with $900+ price tags (Minisforum AI370 curr. $935.99 on Amazon), which suggests that the Ryzen AI Max+ 395 options could start at over $1,000 mark.
