Maxtang has introduced a new mini PC, which comes with a slim aluminum chassis and has a fanless cooling setup. While the system sports a compact form factor, there's a generous number of ports, including two USB 3.2 Gen 2, one USB 2.0, one USB-C, 2x Ethernet, one RS232 COM, and four HDMI ports.
Under the hood, the mini PC packs the Intel Core i5-1235U, a mid-range power-efficient CPU from the Alder Lake lineup. Even though it's not paired with an active cooling solution, Maxtang claims that the processor can reach the 4.4 GHz turbo frequency, which should lead to decent performance under moderate to relatively heavy loads.
The Intel Core i5-1235U also brings the Iris Xe G7 80 EU iGPU. While it's not as capable as the ever-so-popular Radeon 780M that's inside a good number of mini PCs, it makes the Maxtang SXRL-20 capable of playing videos with AV1 codec. So, even though it might not be a great pick for gaming, it's enough to make the mini PC ideal for an entertainment system.
This CPU inside the fanless mini PC can be paired with up to 64 GB of DDR4 RAM, and there are two M.2 2280 slots that can hold up to 8 TB of storage (4 TB Samsung 990 EVO Plus SSD curr. $249.97 on Amazon). Besides the rich connectivity, the Maxtang SXRL-20 has an M.2 Key E slot for a WiFi and Bluetooth card. Users can also install up to six optional antennas on the system, and there's support for a 4G SIM.
As for the price, the Maxtang SXRL-20 with 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB SSD costs $479. There's another configuration available from the company, which bumps the storage to 1 TB; it's available at $529.
