When it comes to mid-range gaming laptops that manage to strike a careful balance between performance, usability, and price, the Lenovo Legion 5 15 stands out. We called the AMD Ryzen and RTX 5060 Legion 5 15 “the best mainstream gamer” in our review, while also showering the Intel Raptor Lake and RTX 5070-based version with praises. So, whether you want to want a 1080p gamer or a QHD gaming laptop, the Legion 5 15 is definitely a machine worth considering.
This recommendation is reinforced by the fact that you can find the Legion 5 15 on sale quite often. Currently, Walmart is offering the Core i9-14900HX and the RTX 5070 laptop-equipped Legion 5i Gen 10 for just $1,399, a $450.99 price cut over the $1,849.99 list price.
In addition to the CPU and GPU mentioned above, the Lenovo Legion 5i 15 15IRX10 (Gen 10) features 16 GB of RAM, 1 TB of storage, a 15-inch 1600p OLED display, a 24-zone RGB keyboard, and a large 80 Wh battery. The port situation is also pretty good with abundant Type-C, Type-A, and other connectors.
In our review of the Legion 5i 15 15IRX10 with an RTX 5070 but a much slower Core i7-13650HX, we announced that the notebook is an “excellent gaming laptop through and through”. With the inclusion of a flagship Core i9-14900HX with 16% better single-core and 51% better multi-core performance than the Core i7-13650HX of our review unit, the Legion 5 15 SKU on sale is an even better gaming laptop.
So, whether you like playing at FHD to get max FPS or at QHD to enjoy the best image quality, the Legion 5i 15 Gen 10 will get the job done rather well.
Moreover, the 15.1-inch OLED panel will also enhance your gaming and media watching sessions with its practically infinite contrast, 100% DCI-P3 coverage, 500 nits of SDR brightness, and a speedy 165 Hz refresh rate. The panel also requires no user calibration and features Nvidia G-Sync.
Our only real complaints about the Legion 5 15 (Gen 10 Intel) were that the fans can get pretty loud, there is no USB 4/Thunderbolt 4, and no SD card reader. The latter is pretty easy to fix, as you can get an affordable USB-C dongle from Amazon.
In spite of these minor issues, the Lenovo Legion 5i Gen 10 on sale for $1,399 is an excellent deal, as you are getting fast performance, healthy upgradability options, and a superb OLED display.
