Fujitsu's LifeBook A6230 is a good attempt at making a consumer friendly laptop from a company that specializes in business notebooks. They system makes a number of trade offs that make it only an average system. Features like a larger hard drive, faster DDR3 memory, spill resistant keyboard, removable dust filter and interchangable colored panels all are nice features but the slower processor and a lower end graphics processor really pull the system down from what it could really be in a $1000 laptop.

Office glamour? No Core i5, no GT 330M, no Blu Ray and no HDMI. The A1130 is a down-to-earth, 15.6-inch office machine. Features like a dust filter on the air vent and a VGA port with screw terminals are not enough to redeem the frumpy-looking case. So one mystery remains: why is Fujitsu asking €800 for hardware that other manufacturers charge €500 for at most? It can't just be the glittery finish. We set out to get to the bottom of this.

Inconsistent office turbo. The LifeBook A514 wants to stand out from the typical budget office notebooks with an i3 CPU as well as an SSD. This works pretty well in terms of general performance, but other areas – starting with the display up to the temperature development – leave mixed impressions: Some results are great, some reveal serious drawbacks.

Different approach. By switching to economic ULV processors, the new LifeBook A555 loses some of its computing power - and gains longer battery runtimes and lower emissions. The greatest criticism is reserved for the disappointing screen.

Fujitsu Lifebook A557
Read any review on a Lifebook and it comes to pass that this series by Fujitsu certainly lived up to its name. It is essentially a laptop built for life and the Japanese manufacturer certainly does not compromise on its performance or craftsmanship. On its surface, the A557 appears to be a well-made, no-nonsense laptop. Its front lid is emblazoned with Fujitsu’s logo and it is clear that Fujitsu intended to keep the design simple and straightforward. It may be an entry-level business laptop, yet this machine is not cheap looking. It is housed in a stable and well-designed chassis, which makes it a solid workstation. It is also made of scratch resistant material. This makes it highly suitable for everyday use. A key uniqueness of the Lifebook A557 is its anti-glare display. The 15.6" panel delivers high definition visual quality and thus provides top-notch viewing comfort. There are two variants: the HD model with 1,366 x 768 pixel resolution and the Full HD model with 1,920 x 1,080 pixel resolution, which is probably the more sensible choice for many. Furthermore, its anti-glare feature enables its viewing quality to be unobscured even when used outdoors. This makes this laptop a pleasant choice for work within and without the office area. Early reviews also show that users find the keyboard fitted on board wide and well-spaced for smooth typing. Not only so, it is also integrated with a numeric keypad for enhanced data entry. With solid specs including the high-performance Intel Core i5-7200U and 8 GB of memory, the Lifebook A557 is idyllic for multimedia and business purposes. With Intel Turbo Boost, processes run smoothly even with multiple applications running at the same time. Notwithstanding its slimness, there is an optical drive integrated on board and this also contributes to its weight of 2.2 kg. The various interfaces available on this notebook enable multiple connectivity with devices be it an external monitor, the network or a headset. With the Trusted Platform Module (TPM 2.0) Security Chip, users can be assured of high data security and protection against virus attacks and other security threats. The 6-cell battery keeps users going for hours on a single charge. Overall this laptop would appeal largely to those who use their laptops for business purpose. It emphasizes on functionality and security. Its direct competition is the Dell Latitude series and like the Lifebook A557, it has an optical drive too. Nevertheless, it is questionable whether an optical drive is indispensable as its omission could have substantially reduced its weight and thickness. If we have to be honest, we were a bit disappointed the first time we held this device in our hands. However, it seems like Fujitsu has made a ton of sensible decisions, given the fact that this is one of the most affordable 15-inch business laptops on offer at the moment of writing this review. Now, the elephant in the room for us was the build quality. Here, we saw cheap plastic, a touchpad with a rough surface but with a very nimble response, a flimsy lid. In our view, though, (of course, when our expectations are adjusted to the price), this is a small price to pay for what you get. Especially with the ease of upgrades. Yes, the LifeBook A3510 has a service lid. Essentially, this means that only one screw separates you from upgrading your memory and M.2 storage.

The Lifebook A3510 produces relatively low emissions, does not have a lot of weight (1.8 kg, ~4 lb) and also includes a DVD drive onboard. The operating system is Windows 10 Pro with the ability to upgrade to Windows 11. A positive feature is a maintenance flap that gives access to the SSD, RAM, and battery.

Fujitsu: Fujitsu is a Japanese technology group listed on the Nikkei 225 with origins dating back to 1935. Its products and services focus on information technology, telecommunications, semiconductors, networks, computer and communications products and advanced microelectronics.
In 1999, the cooperation with Siemens in the IT sector (servers, notebooks, desktop PCs, etc.) started under the Fujitsu-Siemens brand. 10 years later, this cooperation ended.
Only some 3D games with very low demands are playable with these cards.
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3470: Faster clocked HD 3450 and successor of the HD 2400 XT but with DirectX 10.1 and due to the new 55nm process, higher clockspeeds. Avivo HD video functions allow the decoding of HD videos.
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 4500MHD: Onboard (shared Memory) GPU built in the GM45, GE45 and GS45 chipset (Montevina). Because of two more shaders and a higher core clock, much faster than the old GMA X3100. Still not advisable for gamers (DirectX 10 games not playable or only with very low settings). The integrated video processor is able to help decode HD videos (AVC/VC-2/MPEG2) , e.g., for a fluent Blu-Ray playback with slow CPUs.
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) HD Graphics: Onboard graphics card that is built in the new Arrandale CPUs (Core i3 / i5 / i7 Dual Cores). Depending on the model and Turbo Boost, the GMA HD is clocked between 166 and 766 MHz.
Intel HD Graphics 3000: Integrated graphics card in the Intel Sandy Bridge processors (Core ix-2xxx). The HD 3000 is the faster (internally GT2 called) version with 12 Execution Units (EUs).
Non demanding games should be playable with these graphics cards.
Intel HD Graphics 4000: Processor graphics card in the high end Ivy Bridge models. Offers a different clock speed in the different CPU models (ULV to desktop quad core) and therefore a different performance.
Intel HD Graphics 4600:
Integrated processor graphics card found on a number of Haswell CPU models. Offers varying clock speeds depending on the CPU.
Intel HD Graphics 4400:
ULV integrated GPU (GT2) with 20 EUs found on certain Haswell CPU models.
Intel HD Graphics 5500: Integrated graphics card (GT2) in the Core processors of the Broadwell U-series (15 W TDP).
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.
AMD Radeon R7 M260: Mid-range graphics card based on the GCN architecture.
Intel HD Graphics 520: Integrated GPU (GT2) with 24 EUs found on some Skylake CPU models (15 W ULV series).

Intel Core 2 Duo: This is the Core Duo and Core Solo successor with a longer pipeline and 5-20% more speed without more power consumption. As an addition to the Core Duo design there exists a fourth decoder, an amplified SSE-unit and an additional arithmetical logical unit (ALU).
The Core 2 Duo for laptops is identical to the desktop Core 2 Duo processors but the notebook-processors work with lower voltages (0.95 to 1188 Volt) and a lower Frontside bus clock (1066 vs 667 MHz). The performance of equally clocked notebooks is 20-25% lower than Desktop PCs because of the lower Frontside bus clock and the slower hard disks.
