Alongside Flipper Frenzy, Steam is giving away another new indie release, and this one is all about cartoon chaos. Nubs! Arena just launched today, and it's completely free to keep if you claim it within the first 24 hours. The deal runs until May 16 at 6:00 AM PST, after which it reverts to paid pricing.
If the art style looks a little familiar, it might be because the developers - Rangatang and Glowfish Interactive - include former Awesomenauts devs. They are now returning with something much more stripped down and absurd. Nubs! Arena is a 2D multiplayer brawler built around short arena battles for up to four players. The focus here is speed, traps, unpredictable weapons, and a handful of quirky characters you’re expected to master mid-chaos.
While the UI still feels a little rough and matchmaking isn’t perfect, early reviews call it fun and frantic in short bursts. Some liken it to the original Smash Bros. or even Four Swords in tone, but a bit more unhinged. The game supports online and local multiplayer, and Steam charts show it’s already peaked at nearly 8,000 players today.
This isn't technically its first public appearance. A version of Nubs! was floating around in early access form under a different label, but the May 15 launch marks its full re-release and rebranding. SteamDB now lists this as the official version, with the "free to keep" tag active for just one day.
The studio's offering two versions: a basic edition that's free until tomorrow evening, and a Deluxe version with extra cosmetic items currently 40% off. Both support Windows, with no macOS version yet.
