Olares is a startup that is aiming to bring a powerful mini PC into the market with a custom OS that can act as a personal AI cloud. Dubbed the Olares One, the RTX 5090 Mobile-powered mini PC will be available on Kickstarter, with an eye-watering price tag of $2,999.
High-end hardware: RTX 5090, Core Ultra 9
The Olares One is certainly on the heftier side of the spectrum when it comes to mini PCs, which is to be expected considering its powerful internals. The mini PC is powered by the 24-core Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX CPU consisting of 8 performance cores and 16 efficiency cores. In synthetic benchmarks, the CPU performs just as well as one would expect, trading blows with the vaunted AMD Ryzen 9 9955HX3D.
Needless to say, the most important component of any mini PC wanting to fill in the shoes of a personal AI system is the GPU. The Olares One rocks the powerful Nvidia RTX 5090 Mobile GPU with 24 GB of GDDR7 memory. While the GPU is undoubtedly an incredibly speedy unit, the amount of VRAM on offer will heavily limit the number of models that can be accommodated. Customers will have to either completely ignore larger models, or settle for quantized versions.
Cooling the drool-worthy hardware is no small task, and will be taken care of by a vapor chamber paired with dual fans. Olares claims quiet operation even at full tilt, with the CPU and GPU drawing 55 and 175 watts respectively. Since the Olares One mini PC is not exactly intended to be used as a normal desktop computer, the I/O on offer is rather unimpressive in terms of quantity:
- HDMI 2.1
- Thunderbolt 5
- 2.5G Ethernet
- Single USB-A
Olares OS: AI-first solution
As mentioned earlier, the Olares One will ship with a custom OS dubbed Olares OS, and will include a whole bunch of AI-focused functionalities, built-in tools, and plenty of community made software. Of course, it remains to be seen how the software ecosystem will perform in the real world, but the hardware is fairly standard and should be able to run Windows and Linux, or any other OS pretty easily. The Olares One will debut on Kickstarter sometime in the coming months, and will also be presented at CES 2026.
For those interested in an alternative with a smaller footprint with more memory, and are willing to digest worse raw performance, the Strix Halo-powered GMKtec Evo-X2 mini PC (currently $2,199 on Amazon) might be a decent choice.
