Evercade has introduced yet more hardware, just over a month after presenting the EXP-R and VS-R consoles alongside the Tomb Raider Collection 1, its first Giga Cart. Until now, Evercade has sold handheld or home game consoles like the Capcom Super Pocket (curr. $58.99 on Amazon), all with the view of running licensed game cartridges. While the latter will remain true for its next hardware release, it is neither a gaming handheld or a conventional home game console.
Instead, the Evercade Alpha is a cabinet-style system that Evercade advertises as a 'bartop arcade machine'. At launch, Evercade plans to offer two variants distinguished by their pre-installed games, livery and light-up marquee. Not only is the latter swappable though, but both variants can play all existing cartridges through their dual Evercade cartridge slots.
Moreover, they both measure 410 x 216 x 244 mm, within which sits an 8-inch IPS display that has a 4:3 aspect ratio. On top of that, the Evercade Alpha has two USB ports for using external controllers. The Evercade Alpha will be available to pre-order from June 4 for £199.99, €229.99 and $229.99, down from £229.99, €249.99 and $249.99 MSRPs. However, pre-orders will not begin shipping until November 2024 at the earliest.
