Unlike other OEMs that immediately jumped on the Ice Lake bandwagon, Dynabook decided to stick with Whiskey Lake and powered the new Tecra X50 with a Core i7-8665U CPU. The business-class notebook also comes with a 15.6-inch IGZO FHD LCD display, 32 GB of RAM, 1 TB NVMe SSD storage, Wi-Fi 6 and two Thunderbolt 3 ports.

Toshiba’s former laptop division was relaunched earlier this year as a stand-alone company called Dynabook, and its first rebranded 12/13/14-inch Tecra and Portégé X-series models are already available for U.S. customers. To round things out, Dynabook is now revealing the 15.6-inch X50 thin and lite notebook aimed at business users.

Dynabook claims the Tecra X50 is its thinnest and lightest 15-incher yet, with a profile of only 0.69-inch and a ToughBody magnesium alloy chassis compliant with MIL-STD-810G specs for increased durability that weighs in at just 3.13 pounds. Furthermore, the new 15-incher is equipped with Sharp’s IGZO FHD LCD displays (in touch and non-touch variants) that require half the power of a regular LCD, so the included 48 Wh battery can last up to 17 hours.

While other OEMs already announced gen 10 Ice Lake CPUs, Dynabook decided to stick with the Whiskey Lake Core i7-8665U quad-core processor with Intel vPro support and a UHD Graphics 620 iGPU. There is also a new cooling system with an S-Type fan that is quieter when the CPU is in full load. The system supports up to 32 GB of DDR4-2400 RAM in 2 slots and comes standard with 1 TB NVMe SDD.

Other specs include:

  • Harman Kardon stereo speakers with DTS audio processing
  • Windows Hello IR webcam and dual-array mic
  • Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0 (optional 4G support)
  • TPM 2.0 module + fingerprint reader + optional smart card reader
  • Port selection: 2x Thunderbolt 3, 2x USB-A 3.0, HDMI out, microSD reader, audio out
  • 3-year warranty

The new Tecra X50 notebooks will be available in the coming weeks starting at US$1,544.
