Sony has provided more details about the DualSense Edge, a wireless controller that it previewed in August. While Sony will open pre-orders on October 25, the company will not start shipping units until January 26, 2023. Additionally, Sony stresses that the DualSense Edge will only be available while stocks last, implying a limited run of sorts.
Seemingly Sony's alternative to the Xbox Elite Series 2, the DualSense Edge will launch first in Belgium, France, Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, the UK and the US. Incidentally, Sony will not offer the DualSense Edge at participating retailers until February 23, 2023; Sony will restrict pre-orders to its eCommerce platform. For reference, replaceable stick modules will retail for US$19.99 (JPY 2,680/£19.99/€24.99), hinting at the controller's exorbitant launch price.
In a blog post, Sony explains that the DualSense Edge retails for US$199.99 (JPY 29,980/£209.99/€239.99). For context, Microsoft sells the Xbox Elite Series 2 for US$129.99. In fairness to Sony, the DualSense Edge contains greater customisation options than its Xbox equivalent, but the Edge is still almost 3x the price of a regular DualSense. Moreover, Sony will include the following accessories with the DualSense, as well as a carrying case:
- 1x Connector housing
- 1x USB braided cable
- 2x Standard caps
- 2x High dome caps
- 2x Low dome caps
- 2x Half dome back buttons
- 2x Lever back buttons
