The Latitude 7000 series is home to Dell's premium business laptops with more features than both the entry-level Latitude 3000 series and mainstream 5000 series. Traditionally, models from the Latitude 7000 series ship with soft-touch carbon fiber surfaces to distinguish them from cheaper plastic alternatives.
In an attempt to reinvigorate the 7000 series for this Holiday season, Dell will be introducing a new aluminum option for the 13-inch Latitude 7390 and 14-inch Latitude 7490. The aluminum chassis substitutes the woven carbon fiber and slightly rubberized surfaces of the existing 7390/7490 chassis for smooth matte palm rests and a brushed metallic texture for the outer lid.
Other than the cosmetic changes mentioned above, the skeleton remains identical for no changes in dimensions or core design. No new specifications or swap in processors, graphics, or storage drives are planned for the aluminum SKUs. Nonetheless, Dell will still have a strong presence at CES 2019 where surprise Latitude announcements are expected to take shape. The new aluminum options could simply just be a tease of something bigger to come.
