Dell Latitude 14 7414 Rugged Extreme

The Dell Latitude 14 Rugged Extreme is made from a rigid magnesium-alloy chassis and ultra-polymer materials, which make this laptop shock absorbent and extremely durable. There is a 14.0 inch HD Direct-View outdoor-readable display and Dell has added resistive touchscreen on top of that.

Several configurations are available. It can be equipped with an Intel Core i7-4650U dual-core processor clocked at 1.70 GHz and maximum of 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3L RAM. Users can optionally upgrade the integrated Intel HD Graphics to the Nvidia GeForce GT 720M graphics chip. Besides this, there is a 512 GB SSD, which is not only blazing fast but also allows for a non-mechanical storage to further increase durability.

Other features consist of 2 USB 3.0 ports, 2 USB 2.0 ports, an optional docking system and even the ability to add GPS with a dedicated GPS antenna setup. The audio on the Dell Latitude 14 Rugged Extreme is good with its high-quality speakers but the FHD webcam is an option that must be selected by the user. Battery life is amazing with a 6-cell Lithium-ion that powers that laptop for 10 hours.

Nerves of steel. Dell's Latitude 14 Rugged Extreme is a particularly robustly designed work device that can be easily used in technology-unfriendly environments. In addition to the solid casing, it sports high-performance components and modern interfaces. We extensively tested what can be expected from the Rugged Latitude.

The Dell Latitude 14 Rugged Extreme is an intense notebook that's for intense environments. While heavy for a 14-incher, this machine can take a serious beating and survive all sorts of conditions. I also appreciate the outdoor-friendly display, long battery life and data encryption features.

Our Editors' Choice for rugged laptops was the semi-rugged Dell Latitude E6430 ATG, but it is clear that the Dell Latitude 14 Rugged Extreme surpasses it. Panasonic still makes a fully rugged Toughbook 31, but it uses older processors that are less efficient than the fourth generation Intel Core i5 in the Latitude 14. We'd like to see multitouch screen functionality in a rugged laptop sometime soon, but for now, the Dell Latitude 14 Rugged Extreme shows that it is robust enough and modern enough to become our top pick if you need a tough-as-nails notebook.

Dell Latitude 14 3000 3450

The Dell Latitude 14 3450 is a entry level business laptop with a 14 inch display. It aims at users who spend their days preparing powerpoint presentations or excel sheets. The 14 inch display has a rather low resolution of 1366 x 768 pixel. However, an upgrade to full-HD is available in some parts of the world. Although it is not on the ultra-thin side, it looks quite good with its XPS-like exterior styling and weighs only 4.2 lbs (1,91 kg). The built quality of this laptop is quite good and it looks like it could take some rough handling. Dell offers processor choices from Intel's i3, i5 and i7 and includes the integrated Intel HD 5500 graphics. The internal storage can be configured with up to 1 TB of hard disk and up to 8 GB DDR3L 1600MHz RAM. The Dell Latitude 14 3450 is lavishly equipped with input and output ports considering the fact that laptop makers are trying their best to reduce the number of available ports these days. It has two USB 3.0 and a USB 2.0 port, an HDMI port, LAN and a universal headphone jack. It is available with Windows 8.1 or the older Windows 7. As an entry level business laptop, the Dell Latitude 14 3450 is a perfect choice. Where its smaller brother, the Vostro fails, this entry level Latitude manages to pass with flying colors.

The Dell Latitude 14 E5470 emphasizes durability over portability. With most laptops packing screens smaller than 14 inches, we'd deem carrying an extra pound of system weight a poor trade-off. For a 14-inch laptop, however, that’s not necessarily so. A 14-inch laptop is a great compromise size between sleek ultraportables and big desktop replacements.

70% Dell Latitude 14 3000 Review: Is It Good for Business?

If you need a work laptop that lasts and lasts, the Latitude 14 3000 is a pretty good option, since the system can run for more than 10 hours on a single charge. Plus, my review configuration boasts solid security, a durable design and fast performance. Its mediocre keyboard makes it hard to recommend to workers who do a lot of typing, though, and its dull display is also disappointing.

This Dell 14-inch laptop has an understated appearance. Black in colour, the only real embellished seen on the unit’s casing is the appearance of a Dell logo on the top cover of the unit.

The Dell Latitude 14's internal components provide solid performance, and I like that you can get more than 10 hours of juice from the six-cell battery. However, the stiff keyboard makes typing uncomfortable, and the display is dull and imprecise, so this is not a system I'd use for watching videos.

Workhorse with minor drawbacks. A business device for everyday use: This is where Dell comes in with its Latitude 14 E5470. Security features, strong processor, plenty of working memory, and a solid-state drive are installed. These are good prerequisites for a business laptop. However, not all that glitters is gold, and thus our review sample has to accept some criticism. Read just where these shortcomings are found in our in-depth report.

Dell Latitude 14 E7480

Dell’s Latitude line has been a familiar sight in the business market for over two decades. It is currently offered in three tiers, starting with the entry-level 3000 series, then the mid-level 5000 series, and finally the top-tier 7000 series. The Dell Latitude 14 7480 belongs to the top-tier of the series. The exterior of the Dell Latitude E7480 is all black and business-centric. Its lid has a strong carbon fiber construction. As for the lid and palm rest area, it has a silicone soft-touch finish. It's exposed weave is a nice touch. Its straight edges and a no-nonsense look are right at home in a corporate office environment and almost anywhere else. Most surfaces on the notebook are anti-glare except for the display. The Latitude E7480 is just 1.7 cm (0.67 inch) thin, while the rest of the chassis measures 33.02 x 22.1 cm (13 × 8.7 inch). It is very lightweight to carry at just 1.36 kg (3 lb). For a business laptop, security features are essential to have. On this model, it offers biometric features such as a fingerprint reader, an infrared camera, and physical and contactless Smart Card readers. With Dell Data Protection | Protected Workspace, data stored in the laptop is safe across all endpoints, including external media, self-encrypting drives and in public cloud storage. The keyboard on the Latitude E7480 is mostly full-size. The arrow key cluster and Function row (F1-F12 keys) are half-size. The touchpad is slightly offset to the left in the palm rest to align with the keyboard. This orientation keeps it right between wrists as the user is typing, minimizing the risk of the cursor jumping somewhere due to an inadvertent brush with palm. The Latitude E7480 is offered with four display choices: QHD (2,560×1,440) touch panel, FHD (1,920×1,080) anti-glare display, FHD (1,920×1,080) anti-glare display with infrared camera and 720p (1,366×768) panel with an anti-glare surface. The QHD panel uses IPS technology for wide viewing angles, which allows the picture to appear consistent when not looking at the display head-on. This technology also allows for excellent image quality. The Latitude 7480 is based around the new Intel 7th generation processors, codenamed Kaby Lake. It specifically uses Core i3, i5, and i7 dual-core processors with a 15-watt thermal specification. These are mainstream processors with ample performance for general usage and more demanding tasks such as photo editing. This notebook has two DIMM slots for DDR4-2133 memory. A maximum of 32 GB is supported, via two 16 GB DIMMs. This is a normal level of expandability for a notebook in this class. As for storage, it has just a single M.2 Type-2280 (80mm) slot for solid-state storage (SSD). Storage options ranging from 128 GB to 1 TB were offered. Hands-on article by Jagadisa Rajarathnam The Dell Latitude lineup is regarded as one of the most common notebook series used in businesses and still is today. As this is a business centric notebook one can expect a myriad of biometric features on the Dell Latitude E7480, starting with the fingerprint reader, infrared camera, and physical and contactless Smart Card readers. Going along with the business theme the E7480 has a standard black colour scheme, with straight edges and a no nonsense look. Display-wise Dell offers a choice between a sub-FHD panel with no touch support, a FHD anti-glare panel with no touch support or a Corning Gorilla Glass FHD touch panel, the latter of which helps with intractability and perhaps productivity. At 1.35 kg the E7480 is comparatively similar against its nearest Lenovo Thinkpad competition. While the lid sports a strong carbon fiber construction, which adds to its looks, the same thing cannot be said about its main body chassis, which is made of plastic especially. Considering the fact that this is a premium model, it could have been made with better premium materials. Although the internal structure including the bottom cover is of a metal alloy, nonetheless it remains rigid enough under stress. For a business notebook the E7480 is quite up to date starting with its Intel Core-i7-7600U processor which provides a balance of performance and battery life, 8GB of memory and a fast 256GB Toshiba SSD solution. Moving along the E7480 also supports the latest input connectors notably a USB type-C with Thunderbolt 3 support. User inputs is somewhat a mixed bag especially with the keyboard, despite its mostly full size the F keys are of half width. One major turnoff of the keyboard is its Home and End keys being relegated to secondary functions instead of the usual dedicated keys which can impede productivity.  Another downside ist hat keyboard backlight is an addon instead of being the default option, which is disappointing assuming the user has to type through dark business presentations. Overall however, the keys provide decent feedback and are quite quiet when typed on. As for the touchpad it remains a pleasant experience to use, a thing to note here is its slightly offsetted position to the left which prevents a brush with your wrists while typing minimizing cursor jumps. Should the user prefer other modes of point and clicking they can also use the integrated nubbin at the center of the keyboard just like its Lenovo counterparts. Additionally, the dedicated buttons for left and right-clicking is quite solid-feeling and quiet. Audio performance is a bit lacking since the speaker is recessed which causes sounds to be slightly muffled unless set on a solid surface which does amplifies the sound. However general audio quality is quite full with the addition of a strong bass. Lastly battery life is neither good or bad but solid for a notebook of this class putting it at about 5 hours 30 minutes of real world use. To wrap it up if you can live with certain misgivings of this notebook it is still a worthy choice. Hands-on article by Jagadisa Rajarathnam

Dell Latitude 3400

Dell has introduced an affordable 14-inches business laptop known as Dell Latitude 3400. The price range of the device makes it the best choice for small SMEs or even multinational corporations to be used by their executives. The overall design of the laptop is not something to boast about as it comes in as a typical 14-inches plastic chassis which feels incredibly sturdy and there isn’t anything fancy about the design on its own. The major drawback of this laptop has to be its display despite having a matte screen with 1080p resolution and an IPS panel, the display just isn’t good enough. The display has a high black level and low maximum brightness which results in weak contrast ratio. The low color space coverages make the device unsuitable for any color critical work. The low level of brightness will also be an issue when the device is to be used outside. Aside from that, color accuracy is extremely bad making the display quite bad even for watching movies.  The device also does not support single-handed lid opening. In terms of its keyboard, Latitude 3400 has included keyboard backlighting which helps distinguish it from other similarly priced laptops in the market. However, the keyboards are not the best choice for a good typing experience as the keys have just too short for travel and feels mushy in comparison to ThinkPad E490 which had both larger and more tactile keys. There is definitely a drawback in terms of typing comfortability and convenience for users with this ZenBook Flip 15.

As far as the port inclusion is considered, Latitude 3400 has all the ports that one would need for general usage, especially for hard working executives. This model incorporates a total of four USB ports, Gigabit Ethernet, a full-sized SD card reader, a Kensington lock slot along with a HDMI port. In addition, there is also a VGA port. The commendable inclusion within this model has to be the USB Type-C port. While the USB Type-C port can act as video output as it supports HDMI and DisplayPort with appropriate adapter, the port also supports USB Power Delivery (PD) which allows charging even without the proprietary charger that comes with the device. Asus ZenBook Flip 15 has been incorporated with the Whiskey Lake processors of Intel and there is also an option of purchasing the device with NVIDIA GeForce MX250 graphics card but for a higher price though. In terms of its battery, the device has two options which includes a 42Wh 3-cell unit and a 56Wh 4-cell unit for users to choose from. The 56Wh has been proven to support 11 hours of web browsing and 10 hours and 45 minutes of video playback after fully charging when tested. However, this does vary depending on the individual and the type of usage as it differs from one person to the other. As for the 42Wh model, it should last lesser than the tested version due to its smaller battery size. While the good and bad do exist, the choice of owning the device always goes to the user’s preference and need.

Dell Latitude 14 3400 review – a budget business solution
Source: Laptop Media English Archive.org version
As a low-end business laptop, the Latitude 14 3400 has to be a good allrounder of a device to satisfy the market. We are not saying that it has to rock all categories, it just needs not to suck at them. From our limited time we had with this device, we concluded that Dell has put a lot of effort into this one. However, we feel that it is still not enough.

This is one solid business notebook. Its performance is pretty decent, and the battery life is stellar – 13 hours of Web browsing and almost 14 hours of video playback. This time, the Optimizer didn’t interfere with our work, and unlike what we saw on the Latitude 15 9510, it didn’t cut back the CPU frequency.

i7-7600U: Kaby-Lake based SoC with two CPU cores clocked at 2.8 to 3.9 GHz, HyperThreading and manufactured with an improved 14nm process. Integrates a HD Graphics 620 clocked at 300 - 1150 MHz and is manufactured in an improved 14nm process.

i5-7440HQ: Quad-core notebook processor based on the Kaby Lake architecture running at 2.8 - 3.8 GHz without Hyper Threading (which is supported by the faster i7 CPUs). The chip also integrates the HD Graphics 630 GPU clocked at 350 - 1000 MHz and is manufactured in a 14 nm process (improved compared to Skylake).

i7-7820HQ: Quad-core notebook processor based on the Kaby Lake architecture running at 2.9 - 3.9 GHz. It is the second fastest model of the consumer H-series in the beginning of 2017. The chip also integrates the HD Graphics 630 GPU clocked at 350 - 1100 MHz and is manufactured in a 14 nm process (improved compared to Skylake).

Intel Comet Lake:

i7-10510U: Comet Lake based low power quad-core processor (technically identical to Whiskey Lake and still produced on 14nm++). The CPU cores can clock between 1.8 and 4.9 GHz (all 4 cores 4.3 GHz max.) with HyperThreading (8 threads). The integrated memory controller supports DDR4-2666 and using cTDP up/down the performance can be adjusted by the OEM (10 - 25 Watt possible, 15W default).

14.00:

14 inch display size represents a middle ground between the small subnotebook formats and the screens of the standard 15 inch laptops.

The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, provides good resolutions with usable detail sizes, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact.

In the past, 14-inch devices were very rare, but now they are the standard for laptops after the 15-inchers.

1.35 kg:

3.69 kg:

A laptop with this weight is comparatively heavy and less designed for mobility than for use at the desk. Therefore, the devices tend to shine less with battery life than with a large screen and higher performance.

79.33%: This rating is not earth-shattering. This rating must actually be seen as average, since there are about as many devices with worse ratings as better ones. A purchase recommendation can only be seen with a lot of goodwill, unless it is about websites that generally rate strictly.
