Dark Souls modders join forces to create mod sequel "Dark Souls: Nightfall" with faster combat, expanded lore, and voice acting
Prominent Dark Souls modder Grimrukh announced a massive collaborative mod project with other community members, called "Dark Souls: Nightfall." Nightfall is apparently a full-fledged mod sequel for the original Dark Souls.
According to Grimrukh, Dark Souls: Nightfall will feature voice acting, expanded lore, a new world map, and a faster combat system. Grimrukh is partnering with AinTunez, Meowmaritus, and other community members to push Dark Souls: Nightfall through completion.
How is the team planning to create a full-fledge sequel to a AAA game? Grimrukh claims that they are primarily reusing and repurposing existing Dark Souls assets, which should save a considerable amount of time and effort in terms of asset creation. The original Dark Souls features very diverse environments, though, from Lost Izalith to the Undead Burg, so this shouldn't result in a bland experience.
The timing of the Dark Souls: Nightfall announcement is interesting because Bluepoint Games is working on a Demon's Souls remaster for the PlayStation 5, featuring completely new assets and ninth-gen rendering techniques. Whether or not the Demon's Souls remaster makes its way over to PC, gamers now at least have Nightfall to look forward to.
