Recently, leaked images have shown DJI's upcoming Action 6 paired with a smartwatch. The Action 6 is positioned as a successor to the popular Action 5 Pro, featuring major internal upgrades and enhanced smartwatch connectivity as a key differentiator. It is essential to take the following information with a grain of salt, however, as it is based on leaked tester images and reports.
The Action 6's smartwatch integration features include remote control capabilities, allowing users to start or stop recording and switch modes without needing to touch the camera. GPS data overlay during recording will also be available for activity tracking. The Action 6 is expected to be compatible with the Apple Watch and Garmin devices, building on the Action 5 Pro's foundation. Specific data sync options reportedly will include speed, heart rate, distance, altitude, and trajectory. Garmin-exclusive features will also be available, such as power/cadence, pace, and dive data.
The core camera specifications of the upcoming Action 6 include a larger 1-inch CMOS sensor, compared to its predecessor. The camera will be capable of recording video in 8K@30fps, 5.3K@60fps, 4K@120fps, and 1080p@240fps. Additionally, it will support a 10-bit D-Log M color profile with 13.5+ stops of dynamic range. The Action 6 will also feature RockSteady 4.0 with AI-enhanced HorizonSteady 360-degree stabilization.
The Action 6 will feature 64 GB of built-in storage, plus microSD expansion. Connectivity features include Bluetooth 5.1, Wi-Fi 6, and USB-C, with potential support for DisplayPort. The camera will be waterproof up to 18 to 20 meters without a case and will house a 1950mAh battery that supports over four hours of 4K recording. To accommodate the larger sensor, the Action 6 will feature a bulkier housing design.
The expected announcement date for the camera is mid-October of this year, with pre-orders starting soon after and shipping in late October to early November. Pricing for the Action 6 will start at $329 to $429 for the Standard Combo (which includes the camera, basic mounts, and one battery) and $479 to $579 for the Adventure Combo (which includes extra batteries, a protective case, and rugged mounts).
