Cybertruck automatic tailgate drop for truck bed extension and new storage vault shown along with ventilated seats and rear steering
Tesla's chief designer Franz von Holzhausen rode a Cybertruck to arrive for an event at the Peterson Automotive Museum and apparently left it for the attendants to preview while on stage, resulting in tons of new pictures and videos of the Cybertruck.
Starting with the exterior, people were playing with the truck bed options of Tesla's first electric pickup, demonstrating how the tailgate drops automatically to extend the truck bed with the push of a button. For the first time, there were pictures of the Cybertruck's cool trunk vault with the lid popped open, too. This one can be used for storage or as a tailgate party cooler, but is not big enough to house a spare. The automatic tonneau cover was also filmed in a quick push-button action, as was the Cybertruck's charging port popping open.
The new Hardware 4.0 FSD camera in the front bumper that the Tesla Model 3 Highland redesign will also have was photographed from up close as well with a small opening above it that might be for a lens cleaning nozzle. The Cybertruck was also spotted making rounds in a covered parking lot where its rear wheel steering seemed to come as a big help. Finally, the mystery of the rolling Cybertruck windows was solved when Tesla's chief designer got in an lowered them all the way down - a feat that has so far been a subject of speculation.
Moving on to the interior, the big news is a confirmation that the Cybertruck will have ventilated seats, just like the ones rumored for the Tesla Model 3 Highland refresh. There appear to be tiny holes in the Cybertruck's seat upholstery, as is typical for vented ones, for added comfort on hot rides. A huge central console display and a yoke steering wheel also got reiterated in the Cybertruck interior shots, though the wheel is most likely going to be optional.
The Cybertruck prototypes are now undergoing intensive pre-release tests, including as far as New Zealand for the winter tryouts. Elon Musk said that a big Cybertruck launch event will ideally happen towards the tail end of Q3, most likely in September, and that is where all the Cybertruck price and specs details will be revealed.
