Tesla Cybertruck's spacious frunk looks ready to chow down in latest spy shots at Southern Hemisphere Proving Grounds
There now seem to be daily leaks and spy images of the Tesla Cybertruck, as the proposed launch window draws ever closer, revealing more and more of the final design of Tesla's electric pickup truck. Recently, the Cybertruck was spotted arriving in New Zealand to undergo winter testing at the Southern Hemisphere Proving Grounds (SHPG). More recent spy shots taken at the SHPG, and posted to the Cybertruck Owners Forum, give us a good look at the front trunk of the Cybertruck and reveal that the previously-seen design, which closely resembles that of the Ford F-150 Lightning, is here to stay when the production Cybertruck finally makes it to market.
The image quality is rather poor, but the footage of the Cybertruck being off-loaded from a truck bed reveal a frunk that opens from the bottom, with the "grille" area and LED bar forming part of the lid. Aside from making the Cybertruck look at bit like a hungry hippo when it's open, this style of opening is of some benefit to the driver. Most importantly, integrating the front "grille" panel in the lid of the frunk means that there is less of a lip to lift objects over when you're loading your groceries.
That said, the lid of the frunk is rather large as a result of its design, and is bound to be quite heavy, thanks to the stainless steel material that comprises the Cybertruck's skin — perhaps an issue that could be alleviated by using electric motors to open the frunk. The lid design doesn't seem to allow too large an opening into the frunk, though, which probably won't limit the size of things you can load into the frunk, but it will almost certainly result in more than a few bruises on the heads of early adopters.
