As it is, we can only recommend the Chuwi LapBook if you're willing to take a flyer and wouldn't be terribly put out if your $250 laptop suddenly had to be shipped a long ways, for a long while, for replacement or repair. If this would be your only computer to rely on, we'd be way more inclined to recommend shopping for a budget model, likely with a smaller screen, from a domestic e-tailer or a local retail shop. It's a lot easier to schlep a wonky laptop back to your local Best Buy or back to Amazon.com or Newegg.com than to ship it back across the Pacific.

We just wished it had more connectors and dropped that proprietary power socket. Oh, and don’t fork out extra for the faster processor, the price difference is far too big to justify the jump in performance.

Chuwi LapBook 14 inch 2017
The Chuwi LapBook 14 inch 2017 is an affordable 14.1-inch laptop, featuring an Intel Celeron N3450 CPU, which belongs to the latest 14 nm Atom cores. Codenamed Goldmont, it’s a quad-core model which can hit 2.2 GHz in its 6-Watt TDP. Goldmont in this configuration is known as Apollo Lake, and it features an Intel HD Graphics 500 with 12 EUs up to 700 MHz. The LapBook also features 4 GB of RAM, and 64 GB of eMMC storage, as well as a MicroSD slot for adding up to another 128 GB of storage. Just like the LapBook 14, the charger and the cables are white. It looks nice and in some ways like the previous version of the Macbook Pro. The adapter is compact and connects to the laptop using a small, round connector on the left side. The cable which goes into the wall socket can be swapped. This is useful if users plan on taking the LapBook 14 to places where different plugs are required. The chassis of the Chuwi LapBook 14 inch 2017 is made out of plastic, but it is thick enough that it does not creak or flex when picked. It also has a slightly textured finish, which makes it feel nice to the touch. For the money, the LapBook 14 has great build quality. The LapBook 14 has compact dimensions for a 14.1-inch laptop, mostly thanks to smaller screen bezels and its thinner profile. It measures 32.92 x 22.05 x 2.05 cm (12.96 x 8.68 x 0.81 in) and weighs at 1.46 kg (3.21 lbs). The keyboard on the Chuwi LapBook is one of the better keyboards on a budget laptop and offers generous travel between the keys. The keys are spaced out well and feel extremely nice and solid. There are no dedicated buttons for any of the hardware functions except the power button. The Chuwi LapBook‘s display is outstanding. The LapBook features a 1920 x 1080 IPS panel. While Chuwi is not alone in the IPS market with HP offering a Carrizo-L powered 14-inch notebook with IPS as well, the IPS display is a huge step up over the TN competition. Having an IPS panel means that the viewing angles are really good, both horizontally and vertically. The LapBook also features 8 mm bezels, which is quite a bit thinner than most laptops‘. The anti-glare coating on the panel and the brightness allow user to use it in direct sunlight. The panel also consumes very little power. The LapBook 14 has a 9,000 mAh battery inside, which promises excellent battery life. Chuwi has also gone with an 802.11ac wireless card from Intel. The LapBook 14 features Bluetooth and two USB ports. Hence, a user can connect a wireless or wired mouse if desired. As for operating system, the LapBook 14 runs on Windows 10 Home. The Chuwi LapBook 14 is priced very reasonably and can be a perfect choice for those who are on a tight budget. Hands-on article by Jagadisa RajarathnamSpecifications

Attractive and slow. Chuwi's MacBook Air clone certainly looks nice and could easily pass as an Ultrabook twice the price. Dig a little deeper, however, and the small flaws quickly begin to crack.

The LapBook Air 14.1 is a mixed bag. On one hand you have a really cool design and some decent specs (that display is especially attractive for an entry-level laptop), but on the other hand performance is not quite where it should be. It's currently priced at $443 on GearBest, which puts it on the same level as some offerings from established brands like Acer, Dell and HP and makes it hard to recommend.

Overall, this is a pretty decent unit but does have some drawbacks. If you're going to be using this at home or with an external mouse, it might be the perfect option, but for me, I think when you start creeping up towards the $400 price range, there are better and more reliable options from big name brands. Sure, the other options from the likes of Dell, Toshiba, and others aren't as svelte compared to the LapBook Air, but they are certainly more powerful, probably more reliable out of the box, and when something does go wrong, you'll probably have an easier time trying to get it fixed. This was again a good attempt by Chuwi, but it will need to step things up and take things a step further to make this a product that I could fully recommend.

At this price range, yes even with the shipping, the Chuwi LapBook looks like a good value for money device. For now you need to buy it from an international e-commerce player, but Chuwi is in talks Indian e-tailers to bring the device here directly. If you are looking for a good notebook that helps you consume and create content, then the LapBook seems like a good buy, though with an element of risk attached to it.

In closing, I have to admit that the last thing I thought I’d be doing is writing a recommendation of this particular laptop. These Chinese “grey market” electronics are always tough to gauge, and jumping for one is usually a lesson in severe disappointment. It’s like buying the generic version of your favorite cereal; most of the time you just wished you’d have bought the name you recognized. Chuwi is proving itself to be different, and (trackpad woes aside) the new Lapbook is a pretty fantastic example of that. If you’re looking for a full-fledged Windows 10 notebook to carry out basic to intermediate tasks and don’t want to wreck your wallet, it’s a solid option. The LapBook 14.1 retails for around $299, though you can find it for as cheap as $239. Even at that higher price point it’s a pretty good deal, and if you manage to snag it for less than that it’s just icing on the cake.

Chuwi already make a number of other devices, mostly 2-in-1s, and their next release, the Hi13 looks set to eclipse everything we've seen before. But for now, as a ‘value proposition' it demonstrates everything that's great about buying grey.

Chuwi's LapBook is not the fastest laptop you can buy by any stretch of the mind, but it is both capable for most daily tasks and more up to the job than most cheap Windows 10 laptops. The full-HD screen and full-size keyboard are highlights, as is the incredibly quick startup, but you'll want a proper mouse to get around that awful trackpad. Recommended for those looking for a usable Windows 10 laptop at an attractive price.

Chuwi Lapbook 12.3
At a glance, one can be mistaken that the Chuwi LapBook 12.3 looks familiar and if you guessed Apple you might be right. After all, as they say imitation is the greatest form of flattery. Even Xiaomi has taken its design cues from Apple range of Macbooks. So, what exactly is this MacBook look alike and what are its guts made of? For starters powering this notebook is an Intel Celeron N3450, 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB of eMMC flash storage. Just by its specs alone one can already see a common theme with budget platforms like these especially its CPU. In terms of its display the Chuwi LapBook 12.3 sports a 3:2 aspect ratio with a jaw dropping 2736x1824 pixels IPS panel which is quite similar to the Surface 4. The only disappointing thing about the display is the lack of touch functionality but then again usually those are reserved for convertibles. Looking at its chassis construction the Chuwi LapBook 12.3 is made out of an all metal brushed aluminium which makes it look and feel premium not only that this adds to its rigidity and solidness which it scores well. Going along to its IO it is safe to say that Chuwi might have omitted certain aspects of the Mac lineup mainly with its decent port count which is made out of 2 USB 3.0 ports, a HDMI connector and a microSD card slot. Turning the notebook over reveals its 2 speaker grills and a small slot where users can expand its already tiny storage with an M.2 based storage solution which is highly recommended as 64 GB storage for a laptop simply wouldn’t work in today’s world. For user input the keyboard is about decent with excellent feedback and reasonable key travel. Overall typing experience could almost be close to Apple’s although there are some differences. This goes the same for its touchpad which is decent in size, sensitivity and precision. Despite being an Apple look alike there are some departments in which the Chuwi LapBook 12.3 falls short, one of them being battery life which tops out at only 3 hours and 30 minutes, this means it doesn’t even come close to the Apple MacBook in any regards. While its key features such as the display resolution are impressive it does have some glaring weakness with one being battery life and its performance. If you are looking for battery life and performance you should look elsewhere, but if you are looking for an Apple look alike with a stunning display, then this might be your choice. The Chuwi LapBook 12.3 is more of a ‘show it off’ device rather than an actual workhorse. Hands-on article by Jagadisa RajarathnamSpecifications

Although it might look good, it has a fundamental flaw where its core functionality is compromised. Sure, I made due with it for a week, but many times it would bring me to life's edge and would have me altering my usual behaviors to avoid using the trackpad as much as possible or not making any complex actions with it. This is perhaps the laptop's Achilles heel and is what kills the experience as a whole for me. Maybe the SurBook or LapBook Air will fix this issue, bringing consumers a laptop worth bragging about.

This all adds up to a pretty interesting option for anyone considering a Surface Pro 4. For the price — the Surbook is up for pre-order at a price of $428.99, with the keyboard dock adding another $90 to that total, along with an optional stylus for slightly more — it’s less than half of the price of Microsoft’s lower end Surface Pro 4. I wouldn’t recommend it as a substitute for an i7-equipped Surface Book — if you’re in the market for a multi-tasking monster, this isn’t the hybrid for you — but the Surbook is an incredible value for a mid-range hybrid.

The LapBook 12.3 takes everything that made the 14.1 great, and steps it up a notch. But the amazing thing is that it does this, and doesn’t take the price and put this laptop into another category. The Chuwi LapBook 12.3 isn’t going to be able to compete with Ultrabooks on many fronts, but it does offer a lot of an Ultrabook’s appeal in its thin, light, and sleek design, but with a much, much lower price point. Not very long ago, buying a laptop for under $500 meant it was going to offer several severe compromises, but Chuwi has proven, again, that a low-cost computer doesn’t need to be that way. If you’re ok with the smaller display on the LapBook 12.3, you end up with an amazing laptop for the price.

The Chuwi LapBook 12.3's uncomfortable keyboard, error-introducing touchpad and dim (though high-res) display place tough, nearly insurmountable hurdles in front of any user given the notebook. It might appear to be the better of the two on paper, and physically the more premium device with its metal build and high-res screen, but we couldn’t recommend the Chuwi LapBook 12.3 over the LapBook 14.1 - the instant startup times, improved battery life and larger screen of the latter has won us over. The Chuwi LapBook 12.3 is a definite upgrade from the LapBook 14.1, and should Chuwi solve the two outstanding problems we’ve highlighted, it will have a sure-fire winner on its hands. The Jumper EZBook 3 Pro or the Yepo N737A, both of which we’ve yet to review, are the closest rivals in terms of specifications, but still can’t offer the same 5-megapixel display.

As it stands right now, I can only recommend the Lapbook Air to those who value design and portability above all else. Other buyers looking to spend around $450 should look into some of the systems from Dell, HP and Acer I mentioned earlier, which offer more performance for the price.

The Chuwi Lapbook Air might look nice and offer solid build quality. However, it falls down in most other areas apart from having a decent screen for the price. Performance is basic, the laptop is heavy and the trackpad is annoying.

The Chuwi LapBook SE is one of the most exciting budget laptops from China. The LapBook SE has an aluminum case, a Gemini Lake quad-core processor, eight hours battery life and an easily accessible M.2 drive bay for SSDs. In this review, we will determine where Chuwi has made savings to keep the LapBook SE’s price below €350 (~$402).

The only real downside to the Lapbook SE is that you will have to buy it sight-unseen from a Chinese reseller like AliExpress. But when you are getting so much laptop for so little money that's a hurdle I'd be prepared to jump over.

Chuwi LapBook Pro
It seems to be a rather unsurprising case that the success of Huawei as a telecommunication brand has attracted the attention of not only foreign users with keen interests from various parts of the world, but as well as some unheard competitors within the very same scene. As such, Chuwi has made a slithering maneuver in an attempt to replicate one of Huawei’s releases back in fall – the Huawei MateBook X Pro – and produced their own rendition of the selfsame laptop. The Duplicate is better in a few areas, which the Huawei MateBook X Pro seems to have decidedly omitted in its production. The Chuwi LapBook Pro is thus sired from this vision of bettering another brand’s existing laptop model in hopes of being able to steal some spotlight to itself. At first glance, the Chuwi LapBook Pro undoubtedly bears an uncanny resemblance towards the Huawei MateBook X Pro in its entirety. However, in its defense, most laptop models of this current generation adopt the very same blueprint to be molded into existence. This explains the common similarities to be found in more than one laptop brands should they be compared side by side to each other. The Chuwi LapBook Pro houses a 14.1-inch FHD screen with a 90 % screen-to-body ratio thanks to ultra-slim side bezels. The display screen cleverly utilizes an IPS panel in order to capture every detail in vivid color on a 1,920 x 1,080 screen resolution. Though the screen size alone seems to be bigger in life, the sheer dimensions of the Chuwi LapBook Pro is relatively smaller. The overall size of the Chuwi LapBook Pro is reduced by 30 % thus rendering it equally both convenient and practical to be carried around with. The construction of the Chuwi LapBook Pro is made wholly from magnesium alloy which adds an ascertained degree of lightweight property to the entire device. The Chuwi LapBook Pro is equipped with a low power consumption processor unit aptly known as the Gemini Lake N4100. The Gemini Lake N4100 is Intel’s new generation of quad-core processor which is integrated with the new Goldmont microarchitecture and produced under 14 nanometer process, which records the Gemini Lake N4100’s performance rate of up to 2.4 GHz. The Gemini Lake N4100 processor unit is considered to be decent, though admittedly, it would not perform as well as some of the other existing processor units that can be found in competing laptop brands. It would be safe to say that the Gemini Lake N4100 would be considered a careful decision made when production cost was being brought to the developer’s attention. Chuwi's 14-inch laptop scores well for its sleek metal design, its silent operation, good battery life, its IPS display with stable viewing angles and a wide colour gamut. Added to that are keyboard backlighting and the option to expand the device with an M.2 SSD, both of which are welcome.

It's got the looks of a $1000 Ultrabook but with the performance of a $100 netbook. There's a good reason why you don't see many Intel Atom laptops with 4K UHD displays in the market; they are an imbalanced pairing.

Chuwi has proven it can make a solid notebook. The LapBook Plus is a budget laptop with premium construction and with plenty of ports and a 4K display, which you rarely see in a sub-$500 laptop. It also goes pretty light on the bloatware. However, weak specs make it hard to take advantage of 4K content -- unless viewing is the sole task. The LapBook could use a few component tweaks and a new set of speakers, as these changes would help the company compete more fiercely with major manufacturers. For $349, you can get the Acer Aspire 5 which offers better performance and battery life. But if you're looking to get a 4K display for cheap, you can't go wrong with the Chuwi LapBook Plus.

Buy the LapBook Plus if you need a large 4K display in an ultrathin form factor at a budget. However Chuwi made one big compromise when designing this laptop and depending on your priorities, it might be a make or break one.

Chuwi:
Only some 3D games with very low demands are playable with these cards.
Intel HD Graphics (Cherry Trail): Integrated graphics card in the Cherry-Trail SoCs. Based on a Broadwell GPU (Intel Gen8) and supports DirectX 11.2. Depending on the SoC offers 12 or 16 EUs.
Non demanding games should be playable with these graphics cards.
Intel HD Graphics 500: Integrated low-end graphics adapter with DirectX 12 support, which can be found in some ULV SoCs from the Apollo Lake series.
Intel UHD Graphics 600: Integrated low-end graphics adapter with DirectX 12 support, which can be found in some ULV SoCs from the Gemini Lake series. Compared to the HD Graphics 500, the 600 offers improved display outputs. Compared to the faster UHD Graphics 605, the 600 offers less shaders at lower clock speeds.
Intel HD Graphics 505: Integrated low-end graphics adapter with DirectX 12 support, which can be found in some ULV SoCs from the Apollo Lake series.

Intel Atom x5:
Z8300: Soc with an integrated quad core Atom processor clocked at 1.44 - 1.84 GHz, an Intel HD Graphics GPU and a dual channel LPDDR3-1600 memory controller.
Intel Celeron:
Celeron N3450: Frugal quad-core SoC from the Apollo Lake series for inexpensive notebook. Runs with clocks between 1.1-2.2 GHz and integrates a DirectX 12 capable graphics adapter. Compared to the previous Atom generation, the per-MHz performance of the CPU architecture was vastly improved and the graphics adapter was improved as well.
Intel Gemini Lake:
Celeron N4100: Low power quad-core SoC from the Gemini Lake series for inexpensive notebooks. Runs with clocks between 1.1-2.4 GHz and integrates a DirectX 12 capable graphics adapter.
Intel Atom: The Intel Atom series is a 64-Bit (not every model supports 64bit) microprocessor for cheap and small notebooks (so called netbooks), MIDs, or UMPCs. The speciality of the new architecture is the "in order" execution (instead of the usual and faster "out of order" execution). Therefore, the transistor count of the Atom series is much lower and, thus, cheaper to produce. Furthermore, the power consumption is very low. The performance per Megahertz is therfore worse than the old Pentium 3M (1,2 GHz on par with a 1.6 GHz Atom).
x7-E3950: Entry level quad-core SoC based on the Apollo Lake platform. It integrates four Goldmont cores clocked at 1.6 - 2 GHz (Boost), and a Intel HD Graphics 505 GPU clocked at 500 - 650 MHz (Boost).

14.00:
14 inch display size represents a middle ground between the small subnotebook formats and the screens of the standard 15 inch laptops.
The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, provides good resolutions with usable detail sizes, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact.
In the past, 14-inch devices were very rare, but now they are the standard for laptops after the 15-inchers.
» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.

73.45%: This rating is poor. More than three quarters of the models are rated better. That is rather not a purchase recommendation. Even if verbal ratings in this area do not sound that bad ("sufficient" or "satisfactory"), they are usually euphemisms that disguise a classification as a below-average laptop.
