The BrickBoy Kickstarter campaign has enjoyed massive success since launching at the end of last month. Building on Lego's Game Boy set from earlier this year (curr. $59.97 on Amazon), the BrickBoy brings the popular release to life in a way that Lego decided against doing itself.
With the campaign now exceeding €500,000 in backing, creator Substance Labs has introduced two stretch goals that expand upon the Lego gaming handheld in two areas. On the one hand, all Gamer and Collector Kits now support Bluetooth out of the box. Incidentally, Substance Labs recommends the 8BitDo SN30 Pro for a true retro experience.
On the other hand, Substance Labs has unlocked the Arcade Edition, a kit designed by Lego7, an award-winning Fan Designer. Priced at €89 (~$102) as an optional add-on, the Arcade Edition transforms the BrickBoy into a tiny arcade cabinet with HDMI support for outputting to a TV, as well as local multiplayer support. Moreover, the Arcade Edition enables higher CPU performance and Expo Mode. Please see the BrickBoy Kickstarter page and the video below for more details.
