Partnering with developer Headless Chicken Games, Limited Run Games is officially bringing back Snow Bros., with a collection of console ports for Toaplan’s 1990s arcade classic. Currently, Snow Bros. Classic Collection has no official release date. While pre-orders went live on November 14, the collection had previously been shown as sold out before restocking at the time of writing.
Early in May 2025, an ESRB rating leak hinted at a collection of four “action platformers” featuring princess rescues, pixelated levels, and an evil curse. Now, it’s been confirmed that three games consist of Snow Bros. for the NES, Snow Bros.: Nick and Tom for the Sega Genesis, and Snow Bros. Jr. for the Game Boy. However, it's unfortunate to see that the collection doesn’t feature the original arcade version.
The Snow Bros. Classic Collection is scheduled to release on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam. However, the collection doesn’t feature the sequel, Snow Bros. 2: With New Elves, which would have rounded out the collection with a more faithful tribute. Furthermore, there seems to be no mention of an Xbox version coming out anytime soon.
Two different options on offer
The Snow Bros. Classic Collection features two flavors. The Standard Edition, priced at $34.99, features the game with a standard box and a booklet. For collectors looking to elevate their collection, the Classic Edition, priced at $64.99, features an NES-themed box, a poster, and a bonus soundtrack CD.
Digital releases will follow suit after the physical release. However, it’s important to note that the Snow Bros. Classic Collection is listed as “Pre-Production”, making it unclear when physical editions will be shipped out.
It’s expected that Snow Bros. Classic Collection will run on the Limited Run Games proprietary emulation tool, Carbon Engine. Despite pre-orders already selling out, fans and owners are worried, considering Limited Run Games’ long wait times, quality control issues, and customer service problems.
Snow Bros. was initially released by Toaplan as an arcade-only game in 1990. A year later, Snow Bros. finally arrived on the Nintendo Game Boy, and later that year, the game received an NES port. Snow Bros. arrived on the Sega Mega Drive in 1993, and the game finally received mobile ports in 2012.
The purchase window closes on Sunday, December 14, 2025, at 11:59 PM ET, but, as with many previous Limited Run Games entries, preorders may run out well before then.
