Verdict – Surprisingly pocketable performance

The Aurzen Zip Pro is a pocketable tri-fold projector that delivers far more than expected, with quick image setup and fast pairing to mirror content from phones, laptops, and game consoles.

However, the battery-powered projector relies on external sources for content, and its speakers lack bass.

Nevertheless, the Aurzen Zip Pro delivers more than other projectors of the same size, with sharp focus from edge to edge, even illumination, and enjoyable image and sound.

Pros

+ Solid build
+ Nice image quality
+ Clear speakers
+ Easy wireless pairing
+ Auto image adjustment

Cons

- Brightest mode requires AC
- Under 3 hour runtime
- Speakers lack bass
- No user-replaceable battery
- No built-in streaming services

Package contents

The projector includes a user manual, a USB-C charger, cable, and Type A (US), Type G (UK), and Type C (EU) plug adapters.

Design – Z-shaped folding design

The Z-shaped design projects at any angle, from straight ahead to the ceiling.

The base has a USB-C charging port and the upper section houses the DLP light engine, touchscreen, USB-C video input, vents, power button, and volume controls.

The body remained lukewarm after hours of use in Normal mode, so excessive heat was not a concern. The battery is not user-replaceable.

Charging and runtime

The battery charged quickly to 90%, then slowly to 100%. The meter is inaccurate below 5% or above 99%.

Watching a movie in Normal brightness mode with the volume at 25% resulted in a runtime of 2 hours 10 minutes, while recharging took 2 hours 3 minutes.

Controls and connections

The projector is controlled via its touchscreen display.

The AurzenHub smartphone app can be used as a remote control after online registration.

The projector connects to sources using a wireless Wi-Fi connection or a wired USB-C cable, with broad compatibility across laptops, tablets, phones, and game consoles, including the Nintendo Switch 2. The USB-C input has a rated video lag of under 40 ms.

Initial setup

The Zip Pro is ready for use in under a minute after selecting the projector position, interface language, and optional Wi-Fi login. Firmware updates take about five minutes.

The projector automatically performs keystone correction and focus adjustment within seconds using an invisible calibration beam. Some light leakage may appear in unused projection areas after keystone correction, but positioning the projector directly facing the wall minimizes this effect, making it less noticeable in dark scenes.

Settings

The settings include brightness, image focus, and keystone correction, but no other picture adjustments, such as tint.

Sound

The dual 2 W speakers deliver clear vocals with decent midrange and treble, similar to a Surface Pro, making anime, movies, and TV shows enjoyable at close range, though bass is nonexistent. More powerful Bluetooth speakers and headphones can be connected for a fuller sound.

Maximum volume reached 65.6 dBA with music and 57.5 dBA with pink noise at 1 m (3.3 ft.), sufficient for a bedroom, small living room, or car.

Projection overview

The projector was placed 62.5 in. (1.59 m) from a wall covered with white paper, creating a 57-inch 16:9 image.

At this distance, brightness was sufficient in a dark room but overpowered by shaded daylight. Moving the projector farther back produces a larger but dimmer image. Testing was conducted at night using Normal mode.

The projected image is sharp and evenly lit from edge to edge. Pixels are visible within 1.0 m (3.3 ft.) but disappear at normal viewing distances. Text appears crisp from afar, but soft edges are apparent up close, and fast scrolling is blur-free.

Light aliasing was visible in closely spaced lines, with no motion blur in fast-moving images.

Colors transition very smoothly, with no noticeable blockiness or screen-door effect when viewing movies. Color temperature measured approximately 6000 K.

Owners can switch between three brightness modes: Eco, Normal, and Conference.
(Comparision with a Surface Pro 6 set at 25% screen brightness.)

Eco mode looks muted with crushed blacks, while Normal mode restores shadow detail, resulting in a satisfying image. The fan noise is not distracting and quieter than that of regular-sized projectors with similar light output, even at arm’s length. Conference mode is brighter but louder, requires AC power, and requires ambient temperatures below 25°C (77°F).

Movies and gaming

The image is quite nice among projectors with similar light output, though not OLED punchy. No audio/video sync issues were noticed while playing movies from a laptop.
