OLED-based laptops are getting more affordable this year with the budget-oriented Zenbook 14 models announced by Asus. The UX / UM 3402 14-inch Zenbooks feature 2.8K 16:10 screens and are powered by Intel's Alder Lake Core i7-1260P or AMD's Barcelo Ryzen 7 5825U processors coupled with up to 16 GB of LPDDR RAM and up to 1 TB of NVMe SSD storage.

Asus is adding two more affordable models to the Zenbook 14 OLED lineup this year. These are the UX / UM 3402 laptops that come with a lower resolution OLED display and do not include the Asus screen pad. However, the processor specs have been updated to include Intel’s 12th gen Alder Lake, as well as AMD’s Ryzen Barcelo APUs.

Instead of a 4K OLED, the affordable models come with a 14-inch 2.8K 16:10 panel that features 1,000,000:1 contrast and 0.2 ms pixel response time, plus 90 Hz refresh rate and VESA DisplayHDR certificate allowing for up to 550 nit peak brightness along with 100% DCI-P3 color gamut. The chassis retains the same 16.9 mm profile and a total system weight of around 1.4 kg, but the aluminum alloy lid now features a new monogram design with geometric branding. The Asus screen pad is replaced with a touchpad that also features a numpad. There are also different color schemes depending on the processor brand: Aqua Celadon and Ponder Blue for Intel and Jade Black for AMD.

The Intel-based UX3402 models integrate up to a Core i7-1260P CPU with Iris Xe iGPU coupled with up to 16 GB of LPDDR5 RAM, while the AMD-based UM 3402 variants feature the Ryzen 7 5825U processor with Vega iGPU coupled with up to 16 GB of LPDDR4X. Maximum storage capacity is 1 TB via two M.2 slots. Port selection also differs depending on the processor brand: the Intel models get 2x Thunderbolt 4 connectors with 40 Gbps DisplayPort mode, whereas the AMD ones get 2x USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 connectors. Otherwise, both variants include Easy Charge support, 1x USB-A 3.2 Gen 2, an HDMI 2.0 video output, microSD card reader and an audio combo jack.

Other standard features for both variants include Wi-Fi 6E + Bluetooth 5.2, ErgoSense keyboard with fingerprint reader integrated on the power button, Harman / Kardon stereo speakers and a 75 Wh battery.

Availability is scheduled for Q2 2022 and prices will start at 999 Euro.
