Asus introduces non-convertible Chromebook C425 powered by Intel Core m3-8100Y CPUs
If the Chromebook C434 2-in-1 seems a bit too expensive for your tastes, Asus is now offering a more affordable C425 version that does away with the convertible aspect. The less sophisticated C425 is also a tad thinner and lighter, but offers the same performance since it is powered by the same m3-8100Y dual-core CPU from Intel.
Unlike the C434, however, the new C425 has only one configuration that includes 8 GB RAM of LPDDR3 RAM and 64 GB of eMMC storage. The chassis itself has similar dimensions to other 13-inch models, but, thanks to the 4-way NanoEdge Display, this model comes with a 14-inch FHD display that has a 180-degree hinge. Other features include:
- Integrated Intel HD Graphics 615 GPU
- Backlit keyboard with 1.4 mm travel distance + large 6-inch trackpad
- 2x USB-C 3.1 Gen 1 + 1x USB-A 3.1 Gen 1 ports
- microSD card reader
- Wi-Fi + Bluetooth 4.0
- 2.87 lbs weight
- 1 year free 100 GB Google storage
Amazon has the Asus Chromebook C425 in stock for US$499, while the C434 convertible with 4 GB RAM is currently discounted for US$530, and the 8 GB version is available for US$560. The difference is certainly not that big, yet, in case you are looking for a more substantial price cut, the Holidays shopping season is right around the corner, and prices for the C425 model may drop below US$450.
