The latest member of the C400-series of Chromebooks from Asus is a slightly more affordable version of the existing C434 model. Its specs are very similar, except it is missing the i7-8500Y CPU option and the 14-inch IPS FHD touchscreen has color gamut limited to 45%. On the plus side, the stereo speakers get a more ergonomic placement on the right and left chassis edges.

Chromebooks seem to be in quite a bit of demand in the education sector these days, at least judging by how often OEMs update their lineups each year. Asus, for instance, refreshed its C400-series twice this year and just announced yet another new model to be released next month - the Chromebook C433. This one is a more affordable version of the recently launched C434, hence the slight spec differences.

The new C433 only allows users to choose among the Core m3-8100Y and Core i5-8200Y CPUs, as opposed to the additional Core i7-8500Y option found on the C434. Moreover, the C433 has a very slightly larger chassis so it weighs a bit more (3.24 pounds), and the 14-inch FHD IPS touchscreen is limited to 45% NTSC color gamut. On the design side, the C433 repositions the dual-speaker on the right and left edges of the chassis in order not to occlude them when the device is in tablet mode.  Otherwise, the specs are exactly the same and include:

  • Up to 8 GB LPDDR3-1866 RAM
  • 32 / 64 / 128 GB eMMC storage
  • Backlit chiclet keyboard
  • Card reader
  • HD webcam
  • Dual-band Wi-Fi + Bluetooth 4.0
  • 2x USB-C 3.0 connectors with display and power delivery support, 1x USB-A 3.1, combo audio jack
  • 48 Wh battery

As far as availability and pricing are concerned, Asus only mentioned that the C433 Flip will start selling first in the U.K for £499 and up this October.
