The Asus ROG Zephyrus S GX502 is one of the slimmest, most versatile gaming laptops you can buy. With support for both G-Sync and Optimus, it's a high-power rig for play and a decent-battery one for productivity tasks.

Delivering all of the above in a sleek 15.6in chassis is enough for the GX502 to be a worthwhile competitor, but a few niggles prevent the laptop from moving to the front of the pack. Fan noise is a primary concern, battery life is disappointing, and the absence of a built-in webcam is a strange one.

So, would we recommend this laptop to you, guys? Well, the answer to that question is not the easiest. With that said, we would probably play the safe game and tell you to just go for something bulkier. However, it totally depends on what you intend to do on your laptop PC. From our gaming tests, we could say that you can surely play most of the latest AAA titles at around 45-70 fps on Ultra at 1920 x 1080p resolution. And this was with the RTX 2070 graphics card onboard. However, we had the feeling that this GPU was underperforming in this laptop.

ASUS appears to be clearly marketing this specific model of the Zephyrus S for the hardcore professional. It does, however, strike a very strong balance between the working professional and the gaming enthusiast. There is very little argument that this laptop doesn’t hold significant advantages in many areas of both work and play and frankly, would be ideal for someone who wants a reliable working companion who is capable of fun when you clock off for the day! Admittedly, I would’ve preferred to see some better temperature levels as noise is perhaps the only key detracting factor from this laptop. For general usage, however, this will never be an issue.

The Asus ROG Zephyrus S GX502 is a portable powerhouse, boasting great gaming chops and incredible overall for non-gaming applications. In both style and performance, the GX502 straddles the gaming and productivity worlds nicely, while not necessarily excelling in either sphere. Gaming laptops with 20 Series graphics cards we’ve seen haven’t quite lived up to the hype so far, but the GX502 is the first one to deliver.

The Zephyrus S GX502GW is a major step-up from the early-2019 Zephyrus S GX531 lineup. It still offers plenty of performance in an even smaller, lighter and sturdier package, but this time it's a standard, practical form-factor, with a smarter choice in materials, more accessible internal design, proper battery life, and an improved keyboard, all in a more affordable package.

Asus’s new, back-to-basics design for its flagship gaming laptop is much appreciated, rising in power level without compromising much on thinness and weight. However, cutting the integrated webcam is sure to annoy many fans, us included. All told, the Zephyrus S GX501 takes the smartest innovations of the first model and hones them into a truly formidable mobile gaming PC.

Asus ROG Zephyrus S GX502GW-ES010T
Another top notch gaming laptop from Asus. The GX502 is actually a new series in Zephyrus S line. I cannot say that much has changed compared to other models, since keeping track of naming conventions between each series and different models is a hard task to always keep in mind and do successfully. But as a gamer, this is not what you are interested in. While checking this laptop, I kept asking myself: Who should use this laptop? It is lightweight for such good performance, just barely 2 kg. So, I could count it as mobile friendly for myself. As someone who likes to play games and also do some other processor-heavy stuff, it is the right fit for someone like me; besides one small detail. There is no webcam. Is it a big detail? It depends on your profile. If you just needs a laptop to play games and work on other personal stuff, sure. But if you are like me and would like to be able to do some web calls from time to time, that means you need to carry a portable cam with you most of the time. As I said, besides that there is not much to criticize about the laptop. Performance is at top levels. I must say, Asus does a good job in managing the laptop. There is an app for you to be able to tweak things here and there and find what suits best for you. The RTX 2070 GPU is something that Asus worked on and optimized for better performance which means it is not similar to other laptops with RTX 2070. On that end, it may be close to an RTX 2080 Max-Q model. I think in terms of decision making, the biggest point to keep in mind is your budget. As always, before purchasing something for gaming, the first question you should ask yourself is how mobile you are going to be. Because desktop options can always provide you more freedom in terms of specs and upgradability. For the GX502GW, I can definitely say there are models from competitors like MSI, Dell, and Acer all with if not the same but almost the same specs with different pricing. If your focus is on aesthetics, you should be ready to pay more. If you are only interested in performance and also want to have it cheap, well, you have to look somewhere else. The Zephyrus S GX502 is definitely a premium device and to be honest with you, it is worth its price. Hands-on article by Ümit Yılmaz GüneşSpecifications

If I'm paying S$3,998 for this laptop, I really shouldn't have to pony up extra to get it running properly. This may be a memory management issue that is no fault of ASUS, but the Zephyrus S is a premium laptop, and it should offer top-notch performance right out of the box. These memory shenanigans might have been somewhat acceptable on the mid-range models, but nobody expects this from a flagship model like the Zephyrus S. Having said that, I also feel like the Zephyrus S is too good a laptop in other aspects to pass on just because it has one memory stick. If you're comfortable with performing your own upgrades and want a portable speedster of a laptop for work and play, this is definitely still worth a look.

For my money, and despite some very minor nit-picks from me, such as a FHD instead of a QHD display, the Zephyrus S15 GX502 is quite possibly the most balanced gaming notebook in the market right now – in terms of power, form factor and build quality. You could find one that fills any two qualities, but rarely do you find one that checks all three.

It’s slim, it’s light, and it’s powerful. The display is fast and accurate, the speakers get the job done, and its cooling system is effective, while not going out of its way to deafen you. It also delivers on the performance front, has great battery life when you’re not gaming, charges via USB-C and proprietary power, looks amazing, and has all the ports you’ll ever need.

The 2020 Asus Zephyrus S15 GX502 refines on the 2019 Zephyrus, which was already a solid performance ultraportable. The updated hardware allows it to perform roughly 20-25% faster in multi-core CPU loads and 10% faster in games, with slightly improved noise levels and thermals, and Asus also implemented a 300 Hz screen with dual Optimus/GSyns modes and added Thunderbolt 3 support. At the same time, though, the top-tier 2020 Zephyrus S15 is a significantly more expensive product now, and still lacks the big battery and some of the features available with the competition.

The Asus ROG Zephyrus S15 delivers just what folks who buy $3,000 gaming laptops want: sky-high 1080p frame rates in a good-looking package. Indeed, it's one of the handsomest we've seen, almost able to pass for a civilian notebook until you lift the lid and the keyboard light show begins. The missing webcam is an annoyance, and the imminent arrival of newer Nvidia GPUs will diminish its status, but the S15 easily earns a place amid the gaming elite.

i7-9750H: A high-performance hexa-core processor of the Coffee Lake product family designed for the larger laptops. Integrates six processor cores clocked at 2.6 - 4.5 GHz (4 GHz with 6 cores) that support HyperThreading. Manufactured in an improved 14nm process (14nm++).
Intel Comet Lake:
i7-10875H: On Coffee Lake architecture based processor for big and heavy laptops. Integrates eight processor cores clocked at 2.3 - 5,1 GHz (all 8 cores up to 4.3 GHz) that support HyperThreading. Manufactured in an improved 14nm process (14nm++).
i7-10750H: A high-performance hexa-core processor designed for use in thicker laptops with room for better thermals. The Comet Lake-H processor is manufactured on the third-gen 14 nm Intel process and features a 24 EU UHD Graphics 630 iGPU clocked at 350 MHz to 1,150 MHz. The CPU cores run at 2.6 GHz (base clock speed) Boosting up to 5.0 GHz and the likely all-core Boost frequency is 4.3 GHz. Hyper-Threading is enabled, allowing two threads to run simultaneously on each core.
