The Asus Flow X13 is an ultra-compact 13-inch convertible with a high-resolution display. With the optional display dock, equipped with an Nvidia Geforce RTX 3080 GPU, the Flow X13, together with the AMD Ryzen 9 5980H CPU integrated into the laptop, would theoretically even make desktop computers look old. Due to the lack of availability, we will only review the Flow X13 without the eGPU for now.

As a complete package, we're super surprised - and extremely pleased - by the Asus ROG Flow X13. It's just so usable across a variety of circumstances. Assuming you've purchased the laptop and the XG Mobile external GPU as a complete package, then you've got a real winner of a setup. Minor complaints like the less capable standard GPU or lack of ports are soon put to rest with the eGPU connected, making the overall experience really strong. So If you're looking for a multi-capable gaming laptop, that's also lightweight and portable, but can still do the business when you need it to, then this one is an absolute belter.

The Asus ROG Flow X13 (2021) and ROG XG Mobile provide impressive versatility, power and quality for gaming on the go and at home – it’s the best laptop graphics dock package I’ve seen so far. But there are several strong rivals when it comes to small laptops that offer gaming pace. The Asus ROG Flow X13 (2021) and ROG XG Mobile are a superb combination if you’re after a lightweight eSports and work machine for some days and a gaming beast on others. But be aware that plenty of other small gaming notebooks are available – and that this split form factor doesn’t suit all situations.

ASUS has introduced me to a lot of innovative laptop features its Zephyrus and ZenBook line up. Their new ROG Flow x13, however, is just a different breed altogether. The idea of using a convertible 2-in-1 laptop for a hardcore gaming session only sounds bizarre until you get your hands on this ultrabook. It's hard to find a thin-and-light laptop without some serious sacrifices in performance, but ASUS is headed in the right direction. Yes, it has its caveats, but the ROG Flow x13, just by itself without any accessories, is still something that should be on your radar this year while looking for a new laptop.

Many people like their work laptops tiny and light and their gaming laptops screamingly fast and crammed with the latest technology. Sadly, the laws of physics conspire to keep us from getting both in a single device, but Asus gives it a shot with the combination of its ROG Flow X13, a 13-inch, 2.9-pound two-in-one laptop, and the XG Mobile, a compact external-GPU-plus-dock combo device. The power pairing of the new eight-core AMD Ryzen 9 5900HS processor in the laptop and Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 mobile GPU in the external module combine to deliver a multifaceted, fast system that's imperfect, but still much more than the sum of its parts.

With so many different facets to the Asus ROG Flow X13, there is a lot to unpack. On the performance tip, it’s obviously stupidly fast, especially when you consider how little it weighs. Add the XG Mobile, and you have gaming performance that can run with big 17-inch gaming laptops.

Unfortunately, we weren’t able to get our hands on the ROG XG Mobile external GPU, and we will definitely give our best to snatch it and update the review. Nevertheless, even without the added graphics power, the ROG Flow X13 (GV301) is a remarkable device. We are positive that it will change the way we look at convertible laptops, and not only because of the decent gaming capabilities, but mostly due to the fact, that it has outstanding CPU performance.

So there you have it. At its best, the ASUS ROG Flow X13 is what a convertible laptop aspires to be; it’s versatile enough to hold the role of a low-powered gaming machine when needed, and the role of a day-to-day work machine. At its perceived worst, however, the battery consumption is less than stellar and I sincerely think that ASUS could’ve have done a better job at optimising it further. That, and perhaps forgo the 100W envelope and simply fitted it with a beefier GPU.

Yet the Flow X13 straddles two worlds without dominating either. Gaming laptops are naturally better at what they do through sheer size and cooling whilst true thin-and-lights have exceptional battery life alongside solid performance.

At the end of the day, ROG Flow X13 is a nice and interesting option for those seeking both entertainment and portability during work hours. And you can, of course, pack the XG Mobile eGPU as well. I mean come on, it only weights 1 kg, it’s not like you’re carrying those old school bricks around anymore.

Ultimately, the Flow X13 is best for people who want a compact, well-designed notebook that offers as much CPU power as possible while remaining perfectly adequate for 1080p gaming. The option to release the beast in the form of the XG Mobile should only sweeten the deal; we'll update this review as soon as we test it.

Asus has done it again. They’ve changed the definition of what a gaming laptop is and they’ve made me want to drop over $3K to buy into this new idea. By itself, the Asus ROG Flow X13 is a compelling laptop. It’s very rare to see a 13-inch gaming system and even rarer for it to be a 2-in-1. But Asus didn’t stop there, they threw a high-powered AMD Ryzen 9 processor into the mix and even outfitted the notebook with its own discrete Nvidia GPU. It’s compelling, not $3,299 compelling, but compelling nonetheless.

Reviewers throw this phrase around to describe all kinds of laptops, but it’s very true here: in attempting to be a jack of all trades, this laptop is a master of none. And while the Flow X13 is a top-notch convertible, and an impressive achievement from Asus, it also costs over $3,000. If you need both a high-performance office laptop and a high-performance gaming laptop in one, and you have that kind of change to throw around, I won’t stop you. But those who primarily need one or the other should be better able to fulfill their needs with something more affordable, whether it’s a high-end 2-in-1 or a portable gaming rig.

In conclusion, I’m highly stoked about the ROG Flow X13. If properly priced and if Asus manage to properly balance the performance, thermals, and noise levels, this is going to be the new performance-ultraportable king and unmatched by anything else available right now.

It's a clever solution, and hopefully the first of many variations on the thin-and-light gaming laptop. But this one won't come cheap. It will initially ship only as a bundle, and the XG Mobile will cost about as much as the laptop when it ships separately, though there will be less expensive a step-down model. You can preorder the bundle now on Asus' site for $3,200. (International prices aren't available, but that's about £2,350 or AU$4,140.)

Asus did create a one-of-its-kind gaming laptop with Flow X13. It is a convertible, a gaming laptop, a laptop for creators, an ultrabook, a tablet and a workstation. Overall it is a good and capable machine which is also priced right by the company. For the starting price of Rs 1,19,990, the Flow X13 is much more than just a lightweight machine. It can handle gaming at a decent frame rate and offer performance that almost no laptop of this form factor can offer.

The Asus ROG Flow X13 (2021) has some serious potential, but without the ROG XG Mobile eGPU it doesn't meet the standards of other devices on the market, especially with modern gaming laptops being so slim and professional-looking these days. Still, it's great if you want an especially petite gaming laptop for on the go.

The Asus ROG Flow X13 and its accompanying XG Mobile dock offer the best combination of a laptop and external GPU that we’ve yet seen. The external GeForce RTX 3080 dock offers genuine high- end gaming pace in a box that you can easily sling into a bag, and only desktop GPUs and the beefiest laptops provide more speed. Meanwhile, the laptop packs plenty of CPU power into a slim and sturdy body, along with a good keyboard, its own esports-capable GPU and a dazzling display. There are downsides though. The laptop and dock are hot and loud when they’re working, battery life remains mediocre and the keyboard is small. Many people will prefer traditional gaming laptops, which provide bigger screens and keyboards in heavier, thicker bodies. Impressively, though, the Asus ROG FlowX13 and XG Mobile bundle doesn’t cost any more than a gaming laptop with equivalent components, so there’s no real premium to pay if you want to go down this modular route. This setup won’t suit everyone, but this hardware is worth consideration if you want the portability

The RoG Flow X13 almost manages to achieve what it sets out to do: offer both desktop-level gaming at home, and decent gaming on the road. However, it falls a little short of this. The XG Docking Station uses a laptop version of the Nvidia GTX 3080 GPU that doesn’t offer the same performance as the desktop version. The process of disconnecting the external graphics card is also overly complex, forcing you to quit out of most programs so you can’t simply unplug and go. The performance of the GPU built into the laptop is also decent, and the price isn’t bad for a gaming laptop. But it feels like an inadequate compromise. If you want all-out gaming performance at home, get a desktop PC. If you want all-out gaming performance that you can carry with you, get a dedicated gaming laptop and hope that you can find a power outlet. The Asus ROG Flow X13 tries to be a jack of all trades, but does not end up being the master of any.

So finally, the price. The one that we have here is RM6,499. Honestly speaking, it’s a good price to pay for a laptop like this because at this price point, the competition either isn’t a convertible or doesn’t offer the same level of performance. And that makes the ROG Flow X13 a unique convertible laptop on its own.

At a starting price of Rs 1,19,990, the Asus ROG Flow X13 is an incredible package for those looking for a device that can be an all-rounder - be it your regular work device or your daily gaming machine. However, the main laptop isn't best at gaming until you give it a booster shot with the XG Mobile accessory. If you are inclined to gaming and want to try a new form factor that's sleek and decent, then the XG Mobile combo isn't a bad deal. However, it is important here to note the price that you are paying. In my opinion, the ROG Flow X13 with XG Mobile should appeal to hardcore PC gamers who want a slightly lighter machine but, at the same time, don't want to compromise gaming prowess. Talking about the XG Mobile prices, the RTX 3070 with 8GB is priced at Rs 69,990 while the RTX 3080 16GB is priced at Rs 1,39,900. However, the biggest limitation of the XG Mobile is it works only with the ROG Flow X13 laptop.

The ROG Flow X13 is unlike any laptop on the market today, making it a unique and attractive proposal. ASUS is redefining the 2-in-1 category with this product and has proved that there is no dearth of innovation when it comes to great gaming laptops. Having said that, I didn’t get to test the ROG XG Mobile eGPU, so my verdict is currently limited to the laptop itself. I have to say that the Flow X13 is the most powerful 13-inch laptop that money can buy, all thanks to the powerful octa-core AMD Ryzen 9 5900HS processor. It’s pretty impressive to see the amount of performance this tiny and lightweight laptop manages to squeeze out.

While it has its faults, the Asus ROG Flow X13 provides a solid base for future iterations to build upon. 13-inch gaming laptops with this much power under the hood aren’t common, so if you need a svelte portable machine with some gaming muscle, this could be a good choice. The 2-in-1 functionality also makes the unit distinct, and could be appealing if you like the idea of a gaming laptop that doubles as a tablet. However, the underwhelming gaming performance, mediocre battery life, and cumbersome port placement leave much to be desired. Though impressive in its own right, you’re better off getting the more powerful (and similarly priced) Razer Blade 14 or Zephyrus G14 if performance is your top priority.

Testing 30 games on the ASUS ROG FLOW X13 with RTX 3050 ti and a Ryzen 9 5900HS. The Worlds smallest Gaming Laptop of it's class? Important: The Laptop uses dynamic boost which is why the actual Wattage is 35-40W depending on how much the cpu is needed. If it's not needed that much, the CPU shares some of it's power draw (5W) to the GPU.

As an all-purpose ultracompact laptop, I find the ROG Flow X13 to be unmatched by other devices available out there today. It's a portable, well-built and versatile design, which doesn't compromise on the inputs, screen options, IO, or audio quality, plus offers a hardware platform that can be both powerful with demanding loads, as well as snappy and efficient with casual chores on battery. However, you'll have to accept the design flaw that chokes the airflow with this laptop sitting on a desk, impacting the internal temperatures and the performance in certain situations.

Bottom point, while we can’t draw proper conclusions on the gaming capabilities of this Flow X13 + XG Mobile combo based on our test unit, I must warn you about the high CPU and GPU temperatures you should expect with these two. With the laptop sitting on the desk, expect 95C on the CPU and 85+C on the GPU with a properly running Turbo mode that allows the GPU to run closer to its designed max power (150W for this 3080 variant, 165W for the 2022 Radeon RX 6850 XT model). Bumping up the laptop in order to improve the airflow into the fans will have a positive impact on the CPU temperatures, but there’s no way to improve the GPU temperatures. I will also add that the ROG Flow X13 is most likely going to get USB4 support in the next couple of months, and that should allow compatibility with other eGPU enclosures beside the XG Mobile, something AMD devices did not offer so far. It’s too early to tell how current Thunderbolt eGPUs are going to work on USB4, but I have some hopes they will do well.

The ROG Flow X13 is a light and fast machine that could be a good option for gaming enthusiasts who would like to carry the same laptop to work. The design is solidly done with a sturdy hinge, the matte finish is appealing and the compact form factor makes the laptop easy to carry around. It has a battery backup of about 4.5-5 hours on light-to-medium usage which we felt could have been more considering Asus has marketed it as a versatile laptop and not just a gaming laptop. The heat dissipation on the unit could also have been better but overall, the ROG FlowX13 is a light and powerful premium hybrid laptop from Asus that would suit both your work and play needs.

The Asus ROG Flow X13 costs Rs 1,71,990 in the Ryzen 9 6900HS variant with Nvidia RTX3050ti GPU and 32 GB RAM. For this price, it is undoubtedly a premium offering considering that you can get more powerful gaming laptops or even cheaper ones with better screens for this price. But all of these lack the portability and convenience of the Flow X13. If you are someone who knows what you are getting into, the Flow X13 will not disappoint. Besides the portability and flexibility of the 360-degree hinge, you get great performance I/O, a good 120 Hz display, fast storage speeds, and more. However, if gaming performance is more important to you than portability, you can check out the recently launched Asus ROG Strix Scar 15.

The Asus ROG Flow X13 comes with a starting price of Rs 1,21,990 for the Ryzen 7 6800HS variant. Our top-spec model with the Ryzen 9 6900HS is priced at Rs 1,71,990. For the price, the machine certainly offers a capable performance unit and a display that takes advantage of it. And because the ROG Flow X13 is a 2-in-1 laptop, it is suitable for multiple workflows and use cases. Those considering buying a lightweight machine that is compact and does not compromise on performance can certainly consider buying the Asus ROG Flow X13.

This is also built well, designed well, and practical with everyday use. Plus, Asus didn’t compromise on the typing experience, the screen options, and the battery life, which is superior to what the Intel-based Flow Z13 alternative offers. There are also better speakers and a smarter-positioned IO on this unit, even if the Z13 does offer a few extras such as Thunderbolt 4 support and a card reader. Finally, the Flow X13 is more affordable than the Z13 at the time of this article, as well as the only option potentially available in a 32 GB configuration. that’s not yet in stores, but it should be at some point – hopefully Asus won’t just limit 32 GB options to the bundle that they plan to offer alongside the XG Mobile dGPU (which we’re addressing in a separate article). In the end, this Flow X13 really comes to whether you’re OK with that design particularity that chokes the intakes. I”m not sure how I would go around it if I were to get one of these laptops, and that’s why I’m not adding a clear recommendation award for this series.
