Reviews for the Asus ProArt PZ13 HT5306
Just over two months after the launch of the Snapdragon X Elite processors and the 10-core Snapdragon X Plus, Qualcomm has now released further ARM processors for laptops, including the Snapdragon X Plus 8-core variants with slower GPUs. We have tested the cheaper X1P-42-100.
Asus' new ProArt PZ13 is a relatively robust convertible for creative users who also want to be able to do their work in adverse conditions. The new 8-core Snapdragon X Plus from Qualcomm powers the device, which ensures long runtimes, among other things. However, the same as on the other ProArt models, its OLED touchscreen is limited to 60 Hz.

Prices for the Asus ProArt PZ13 start at $1,099 on Best Buy, which is a steal. Even though I'm not a fan of the keyboard, this probably isn't a deal-breaker for most, especially if you're mostly using the device in tablet mode. I recommend the ProArt PZ13 to users who want a small but powerful 2-in-1 laptop with a brilliant display, but don't need tons of extra ports or a top-of-the-line keyboard.

The Asus ProArt PZ13 is a fantastic 2-in-1 laptop, but there are a few reasons why I’d choose another. In this video, I’ll explain why you should choose the Surface Pro 11 over other options. Tune in to find out what makes it stand out!

We denied the 2024 Surface Pro an Editors' Choice nod because it's pricey when outfitted with extras, and the Snapdragon X's Arm architecture precludes guaranteed, rock-solid software compatibility. The latter concern remains with the Asus ProArt PZ13, but we feel the Asus' glorious standard OLED screen, snappy keyboard and cameras, and impressive value deserve our award. It replaces the Microsoft slate as the best Windows detachable you can buy.

Asus’ ProArt PZ13 makes for a compelling affordable alternative to the Microsoft Surface Pro 11. This is largely because of its gorgeous OLED panel that’s also a responsive touchscreen, as well as its class-leading efficiency which beats a lot of the more conventional laptops we’ve tested. The Snapdragon X Plus chip inside is as efficient as usual, although is lacking in performance in multi-threaded tasks against the likes of the Dell Inspiron 14 Plus 7441 (2024), which has the same processor. Its 1TB SSD is speedy and offers a solid capacity, too. The issues with the ProArt PZ13 owe to its form factor, such as a meagre port selection and heavier mass despite its aim of being more portable. Going for a device like this can have its sacrifices, but it remains an excellent 2-in-1 Windows device for creatives.

Prices for the Asus ProArt PZ13 start at $1,100 on Best Buy, which is a steal. There is a more powerful version available on Asus' website -- for $1,649, you can purchase a ProArt PZ13 sporting Qualcomm's Hexagon NPU, delivering extra power. Other than that, they're the same device. Get the Hexagon version only if you are expecting heavy workloads.

The ASUS ProArt PZ13 is the most compact member of ASUS' newly retooled ProArt family, but instead of being the runt of the litter, the PZ13 is a unique proposition: Snapdragon-powered 2-in-1 for creative pros on the go. It combines refinement and ruggedness in a unique way, too, and as we've grown to expect from ASUS, the screen is brilliant for any number of creative pursuits. It would benefit from more raw power, though, but with all accessories included in the purchase, it's a thoroughly worthy value proposition for ambitious creators.

The Asus ProArt PZ13 complements the two ProArt laptops from Asus and, of the three, is the one that raises the most interest. It's essentially a tablet and laptop in one and is not only packed with AI processing power but also features a DCI-P3 colour gamut 13.3-inch OLED screen that will instantly appeal to creatives. However, while this machine runs on Windows 11 Home, it's powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon X Plus, which is partnered with Adreno X1 graphics. That combination produces a performance that excels in many tasks, especially with Adobe and creative apps, which for the most part it handle absolute ease. However, with some apps, including our 3DMark and PCMark benchmarking software as well as many games, they refused to run.

The Asus ProArt PZ13 is a snazzy little tablet packing in a gorgeous display for content consumption and creation alike. It’s surprising to see it come in at just $1,099 and not make more sacrifices and all the more surprising that Asus includes the critical keyboard accessory that lets the Asus ProArt PZ13 serve dual purposes as a tablet and laptop. The detachable keyboard is a decent accessory, though not an excellent keyboard in its own right, and this type of laptop alternative tends not to work well on laps or soft surfaces. Perhaps the most critical shortcoming of the Asus ProArt PZ13 is simply its lack of performance. The chip inside is the lowest tier we’ve seen yet from the new Snapdragon X lineup, and it shows.

The Asus ProArt PZ13 is available from most electronic retailers, including Best Buy, where it starts at around $1,100. While power of the processor system inside is geared more for the midrange of laptops, the rest of the hardware is pretty solid. The vegan leather on the cover and the backplate don't exude the kind of premium material you might want to see in a laptop north of $1,000, but the performance is great, and it's very portable, despite its weight. Given a choice, I'd probably go with the Asus Vivobook I carried around on the IFA 2024 show floor over this laptop just because of the form factor. Personally, I'm over the "detachable" category this device belongs to.

The Asus ProArt PZ13 is a competitively priced 2-in-1 that offers a good display, excellent battery life, decent performance, and portability. The detachable keyboard and the extra kickstand cover make it as thick as a traditional laptop, but you can use it as a tablet with the stylus. It's also cheaper than other Snapdragon-powered 2-in-1s on the market. If you aren't looking to spend major cash and are on the lookout for a good value-for-money 2-in-1 with a great display and long-lasting battery life for your travels, you should probably consider the Asus ProArt PZ13.

The ASUS ProArt PZ13 (HT5306) is a great companion for content creators who travel a lot and need a compact and light machine with a color-accurate display. Speaking of which, the 13.3″ panel (ATNA33AA08-0 (SDC41B0)) also covers fully the sRGB and DCI-P3 gamuts and reaches almost 400 nits of max brightness in SDR mode. The included external keyboard is surprisingly capable and the same can be said about the touchpad. The kickstand provides a good grip while using the device in laptop mode.In most cases, a creative professional or an artists need a good variety of ports. Here, you get just two USB4s and an SD card reader which doesn’t sound like plenty of connectors and this could be a limitation factor for some users.

Speedy performance, a rugged build, and great battery life make the ProArt PZ13 a solid device overall. The OLED display panel is bright and colorful, the 16GB of RAM is comfortable for most consumer workflows, and the optional stylus accessory adds versatility to the product. My one word of advice would be not to buy the ProArt PZ13 based on the nebulous promise of an AI computing future.

The Asus ProArt PZ13 takes on the Surface Pro 11 and conquers it with a better, more well-rounded package. You may get that slower performance with the 8-core Snapdragon X Plus (though you won’t really feel it), but in its place you get supreme battery life, a gorgeous OLED display and all the accessories you need included — no extra purchases necessary.

The Surface Pro 11 offers a more elegant design and some haptic feedback advantages. It’s easy to argue that overall, it’s a more refined Copilot+ detachable tablet. But that doesn’t mean the ProArt PZ13 isn’t also a great Windows on Arm tablet. The Asus machine is just as fast, even when using a Qualcomm chipset that’s slower on paper, and it gets the same kind of battery life. The ProArt PZ13’s display is more colorful but not as bright. But for many people, its lower price will be the deciding factor.

This is going to be a worthy competitor for the latest Microsoft Surface Pro tablet, a similar, albeit larger, format and running on similar Snapdragon X hardware. It’s coming later in the year, starting at 1299 GBP on the UK market, so it should be closely priced to the Surface. I’d reckon it could be an interesting option for creators and those of you looking for a lightweight travel companion. I’m not necessarily a fan of the tablet format as a daily driver, but the popularity of the Surface series over the years proves that some of you prefer this design over more traditional laptops or 2-in-1 hybrids. So there’s a market for this device.

It’s an exciting time in the world of laptops right now. The introduction of Qualcomm’s latest chips and now AMD’s new AI-focused silicon promise greater competition for Intel in laptops than at any time in recent memory. We don’t know how well all this new tech is going to fare when it gets out into the real world just yet but the stream of new laptops – in particular from Asus this Computex – is certainly whetting our appetite.

Qualcomm Adreno X1-45 1.7 TFLOPS: An integrated graphics adapter that the Snapdragon X Plus 8-core X1P-42-100 SoC features. Compared to the faster 3.8 TFLOPS and 4.6 TFLOPS X1-85 iGPUs, this one does not just run at lower clock speeds but also has fewer unified shaders at its disposal, with 768 being the most likely number. The underlying architecture is reportedly not much different from what was used in the Adreno 730. As for its gaming performance, it's only just sufficient for pre-2020 games at resolutions such as HD 720p on low graphics settings.
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.

SD X Plus X1P-42-100: A relatively affordable ARM architecture processor (SoC) for use in Windows laptops. The X Plus 8-core chip features 8 Oryon CPU cores running at up to 3.4 GHz, along with the 1.7 TFLOPS X1-45 Adreno iGPU and the 45 TOPS Hexagon NPU. The super-fast LPDDR5x-8448 memory controller known to us from other Snapdragon X chips, USB 4.0 support, TB 4 support and PCIe 4 support are all onboard as well.» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.

There are hardly any tablets in this display size range anymore. For subnotebooks, on the other hand, it is the standard format.
The advantage of subnotebooks is that the entire laptop can be small and therefore easily portable. The smaller display also has the advantage of requiring less power, which further improves battery life and thus mobility. The disadvantage is that reading texts is more strenuous on the eyes. High resolutions are more likely to be found in standard laptops.

Under the ROG (Republic of Gamers) brand name, ASUS manufactures gaming laptops known by gamers for their powerful specifications, dedicated graphics cards, high refresh rate displays and advanced cooling systems.
Beyond gaming, a wide range of notebooks are offered for different needs and budgets, from ultra-slim and lightweight ultrabooks to versatile 2-in-1 convertibles and budget-friendly options. In 2023, Asus had a 7% global market share of the PC market.
Customer satisfaction with ASUS notebooks concerns performance, the features, and the good price-performance ratio of ASUS notebooks. However, as with any brand, there are occasional reports of problems such as overheating, driver compatibility, or build quality issues.
