80% ASUS Notebook TP300LA

It is 32x23x1.5cm and weights a tad under 1.8kilos. This is a Windows 8.1 notebook but it has an ability that most notebooks do not have, the screen can flip through 360degrees so not only is it a notebook but also a Tablet and because it’s a Tablet then it also has touchscreen ability.

80% Asus TP300L Transformer Book Flip Review

Asus has used its head when it developed the TP300L and has delivered a laptop that takes full advantage of Windows 8.1 thanks to that clever touch screen. The way it switches from laptop mode to tablet and back again with the minimum of hassle is very neat. On the downside 1.7kg is fairly heavy for a tablet so you will never confuse the TP300L for a Surface Pro 3.

Model: A rotating screen has always been an interesting method for turning a laptop into a tablet-like device and the Asus Transformer Book Flip TP300LA-C4032H uses it. The laptop's simple and elegant silver chassis has beautiful clean lines and curves. The cover is a dark grey contrasting the lighter interior well. There are a few options to choose from.

Processor selection comes in either Intel Core i7 4510U, i5 4210U or i3 4030U being the most affordable selection. The Windows 8.1 Pro laptop can support up to 12 GB DDR3L 1600 SDRAM and sports an integrated Intel HD Graphics 4400 GPU. Storage options are 500 GB, 750 GB, 1 TB HDD or even a 128 GB SSD. The Asus Transformer Book Flip TP300LA-C4032H features a manageable 13.3 inch 16:9 LED anti glare panel with touch screen capability that is definitely a must for a rotatable device.

Other features include a HD Web camera, Bluetooth 4.0, 2 USB 3.0 ports, 1 USB 2.0 port, HDMI out and a SD card reader. Audio quality is decent with the built-in speakers using ASUS SonicMasterLite technology. The 1.75 kg laptop comes with a 3-cell Polymer battery and delivers good battery life.

Intel HD Graphics 4400:

ULV integrated GPU (GT2) with 20 EUs found on certain Haswell CPU models.

Non demanding games should be playable with these graphics cards.

4210U: Haswell-based ULV dual-core processor clocked at 1.7 GHz with Turbo Boost support up to 2.7 GHz. Offers an integrated HD Graphics 4400 and a dual-channel DDR3 memory controller.» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.

There are hardly any tablets in this display size range anymore. For subnotebooks, on the other hand, it is the standard format.

The advantage of subnotebooks is that the entire laptop can be small and therefore easily portable. The smaller display also has the advantage of requiring less power, which further improves battery life and thus mobility. The disadvantage is that reading texts is more strenuous on the eyes. High resolutions are more likely to be found in standard laptops.
