Asus TUF FX505DY
The Asus TUF FX505DY is a high performance and durable gaming laptop. It is featuring a cutting-edge IPS-level NanoEdge display with AMD FreeSync technology and a refresh rate up to 120 Hz, and is armed with the latest AMD Ryzen processor and discrete Radeon graphics. The TUF FX505 AMD Edition has two stand-out designs that exude toughness and power. Its Gunmetal Grey aluminum or black plastic cover features the distinctive Radiating-X design with a matching sandblasted or brushed finish. The hexagonal design on the underside of the chassis provides additional structural rigidity, completing the laptop's modern and aggressive lines. The new NanoEdge design has a slimmer-than-ever 6.5 mm bezel for extremely engaging visuals in a much more compact package. The FX505 AMD Edition features an ultrafast IPS-level panel for supersmooth gameplay with minimal motion blur. Wide-view technology ensures consistent colors when users are viewing the screen from extreme angles. Furthermore, with AMD FreeSync, the display’s refresh rate synchronizes with the GPU’s frame rate to reduce lag, minimize stuttering, and eliminate visual tearing. As for hardware performance, it is powered by the latest AMD Ryzen 5 3550H processor, which has four cores and eight threads capable of speeds of up to 3.7 GHz. And it’s not just for gaming, the FX505 AMD Edition allows for faster, more efficient multitasking, including daily productivity tasks, surfing the net, and watching movies and videos. Paired with the Radeon RX 560X graphics, users can rest assured that the FX505 AMD Edition is up to the task, inside and outside the gaming arena. Infused with the spirit of The Ultimate Force (TUF), FX505 AMD Edition has passed a series of rigorous military-grade MIL-STD-810G durability tests, successfully surviving varying conditions including solar radiation exposure, high altitude, and temperature extremes. It's certified to endure day-to-day use, from accidental knocks to sudden drops off a desk. The FX505 AMD Edition has a keyboard that's optimized for gaming, featuring RGB backlighting across all zones that can be controlled via the TUF Aura Core panel. Exclusive HyperStrike technology ensures more accurate typing and improved ergonomics thanks to a desktop-inspired layout with a highlighted WASD key group, broader space bar, isolated arrow keys, and recognizable gaps between the function keys. For cooling, the ASUS-exclusive HyperCool technology consists of the Anti-Dust Cooling (ADC) system and HyperFan to ensure exceptional cooling during gaming marathons. Cooling is also improved by the patented trapezoid-cut lid and intelligent parallel fan placement. As a conclusion, the Asus TUF FX505DY is a gaming laptop that delivers high-performance gaming at an affordable price. It is not that common to see a gaming laptop with AMD only hardware. This puts this laptop at a special position in the market. Hands-on article by Jagadisa RajarathnamSpecifications

Sick of seeing Intel Core i5-8300H and Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 gaming laptops? Then try this $700 AMD-only alternative instead. The Ryzen Zen+ platform shines in its first outing even though it's a bit late to the party.

Gaming laptops don't have to break the bank and Asus has proven this nicely with the TUF Gaming FX505. It might not have all the bells and whistles like fancy lighting, but decent all-round build and specs mean you get solid Full HD performance in a full-size laptop that can travel with you.

AMD has spent time and effort in improving its Ryzen processors, and it has paid off: gone are the days when Intel remains to be the king when it comes to processors. The likes of the Ryzen 5 offer an affordable and non-mainstream alternative to what Intel has in store.

As much as I wanted to give my full insight into the ASUS TUF Gaming FX505DY, but due to certain constraints like its Hard Drive issues, I cannot do so. Nevertheless, the gaming laptop’s design is premium while I also like its slim side bezels. It also has a high refresh rate panel that I love since I am into first-person shooter games and it is uncommon to get one at this price range.

Asus TUF FX505DU-MB74
The ASUS TUF Gaming FX505 family has been developed to deliver immersive, high-performance gaming at an affordable price. The FX505 family comprises the FX505DD, FX505DT, and FX505DU. The FX505DU models are tested and certified to meet military-grade MIL-STD-810G standards, which ensures that they are tough and durable. This article covers the Asus TUF FX505DU-MB74 model with Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Ti (Laptop) - 6144 MB, GDDR6 graphics card, AMD Ryzen 7 3750H processor, and 16 GB DDR4-2666 RAM.Design and Connectivity
Asus lists three color variants called GOLD STEEL, STEALTH BLACK, RED MATTER (only available in China). It depends on the FX505 variant and region, which color variants are available. A metallic body makes the FX505DU sturdier. In www.unbox.ph’s opinion that simple material change (compared to cheaper FX505 models) makes the FX505DU feel so much better in daily use, as the notebook’s lid and chassis no longer flex when you apply small amounts of pressure. The lid shows the signature “X” pattern of the series. www.yugatech.com liked how the cover can be opened with only one hand as this indicates a strong and sturdy hinge. www.unbox.ph agrees that the hinge opens easily and doesn’t move at all when in place, indicating a sturdier design. The laptop measures at 360 x 262 x 25.8 mm and weighs at 2.2 kg. Top and side bezels of the 15.6-inch display are slim, while the bottom bezel is thick. The laptop features a webcam for video conferences above its display. The right side only houses the exhaust vent, Kensington Lock, and speaker. All of the ports, are on the left side. There are two USB Type-A 3.0 ports, one USB Type-A 2.0 ports, an HDMI 2.0 port, a RJ-45 port, and a 3.5 mm audio jack. Unfortunately, the laptops lacks an SD card slot and USB-C. While one-sided ports might feel very cramped, it makes mouse usage easier for right-handed users. As for connectivity, the laptop supports Wifi 802.11AC and Bluetooth 5.01.Input Devices
The FX505DU features a full-sized chiclet keyboard with transparent WASD keys and RGB AURA Sync lighting. www.yugatech.com thinks that the keys are clicky, have good tactility and there is a little keyboard flex. techcyn.com says that each keycap has a 0.25 mm curved surface for better precision when fingers press onto the center of the keys and 1.8 mm key travel and the keys can withstand up to 20 million presses and only requires 62 g for activation. In www.unbox.ph’ opinion the keys feel great, responsive and have plenty of travel, which made typing on the notebook a breeze. This laptop has a Clickpad, which means that there are no dedicated mouse buttons. www.yugatech.com noticed that it’s not so smooth and the encountered resistance could affect any user’s navigation experience. www.unbox.ph writes, “It’s the most horrendous touchpad we’ve tested thus far, is often unresponsive and overall very difficult to use.”.Display
The Asus TUF FX505DU-MB74’s matte 15.6-inch screen has slim top and side bezels. It features an aspect ratio of 16:9, a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels, and a pixel density of 141 PPI. Thanks to IPS technology, the viewing angles are excellent. It’s a regular 60 Hz IPS panel. www.yugatech.com had a test sample with 120 Hz refresh rate and comment that the higher refresh rate would help users significantly when playing shooter games.Hardware and Performance
The system runs Microsoft Windows 10 Home 64 Bit and Asus’s Armoury Crate software is preloaded, which allows you to switch between given profiles depending on your performance needs. As for mass storage, there are a couple of options, up to hybrid storage consisting of a fast SSD for the operating system and an HDD for additional storage. Our Asus TUF FX505DU-MB74 is powered by an AMD Ryzen 7 3750H processor, an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti (laptop) graphics card with 6 GB VRAM, and 16 GB DDR4-2666 RAM. RAM is expandable up to 32 GB. Yugatech had a model with 1 TB HDD and 256 GB SSD and 8 GB RAM under review. They have tested the laptop in different benchmarking apps and games, and it didn’t disappoint. Yugatech summarizes, “Overall, the FX505DU is a competent gaming machine, offering excellent viewing experience and above average gaming performance.”The Asus TUF FX505DU-MB74's higher RAM capacity helps the laptop avoid bottlenecking effects when trying to run a lot of high-memory programs.Temperature and System Noise
Thermals is an essential aspect for a gaming laptop. This model has two exhaust vents on the back and one at the right side. It comes with dual-fan with Anti-Dust Cooling (ADC) system and a trapezoid-cut design avoids blocking the exhaust vents when the lid is opened. www.yugatech.com subjected the laptop to CPU and GPU stress tests via Furmark and Prime 95. With both apps running, both, the GTX 1660Ti and the Ryzen CPU reached a maximum temperature of 91 °C. When playing games, the tester from Yugatech Both felt slightly uncomfortable due to the right exhaust vent breezing through his hands from time to time. As for system noise, www.unbox.ph says, “The fans are terribly loud [...] on the FX505DU, especially once they kick in when you’re gaming. It’s certainly noticeable over the output of the speakers.”Sound
The FX505DU has two stereo speakers on both sides. It lacks Dolby technology, but DTS Studio Sound amplifies the quality. www.yugatech.com writes that the bass remains weak with active DTS and while DTS makes a louder volume possible, the audio becomes distorted at maximum volume. techcyn.com thinks the performance of the stock built-in speaker of the laptop is average.Battery Life
The TUF FX505DU-MB74 comes with a lithium polymer battery with a capacity of 48 Wh and 4 cells. techcyn.com says that the battery is non-removable. In www.yugatech.com’s video loop test (1080p movie, 50 % brightness, 50 % sound, airplane mode, with earphones), the device lasted for 5 Hours and 18 Minutes. In www.unbox.ph’s WiFi connected YouTube test where they just autoplay YouTube with screen brightness at 50 % and sound at 50 %, the FX505DU ran for 5 hours before it completely tapped out.Summary
The Asus TUF FX505DU belongs to the few gaming notebooks with AMD’s 3rd generation Ryzen mobile CPUs. The press praises the light and portable laptop’s good build quality, price-performance ratio, decent cooling system. Disadvantages are average battery life, lack of SD card slot, USB-C, and Thunderbolt. In addition, the press criticizes the touchpad quality. The laptop is suitable for entry-level gaming as it can run many games smoothly at above 60 fps.Sources

The ASUS TUF FX505 might try to pass its bulky shape and dated design off as rugged but the reality is that this is an old school gaming laptop in ways both good and bad. That being said, for those looking to save money, that’s not necessarily going to be a dealbreaker.

From my time with it, the ASUS TUF Gaming FX505D is clearly no slouch in the gaming department. It’s also unique in its own way, being one of the only gaming notebooks on the market to be powered by AMD’s 3rd generation Ryzen mobile CPUs. As well as having game-centric accoutrements such as a 120Hz refresh rate Full HD display, all-zone RGB lighting, and the option to have an NVIDIA GeForce RTX series GPU fitted into the system.

ASUS’ TUF FX505DU is miles ahead of its plastic-clad brethren. The notebook feels tougher, more premium and feels better put together than its cheaper sibling. And thanks to a better processor and GPU, it’s more capable of taking advantage of its 120Hz panel, though you’ll have to lower graphical settings a little bit to go past 60 frames reliably. The tradeoff here is that the TUF FX505DU is significantly more expensive, coming in at Php 71,995 for the configuration that we reviewed.

The ASUS TUF Gaming FX505DU is an excellent gaming laptop with decent performance and great display. It also has connectivity sporting two USB Type-A 3.0 ports; however, I expected more like putting at least one USB 3.1 or a USB Type-C port. It is also worth noting that the audio quality is terrible as it lacks bass and the sound gets distorted when putting it at maximum volume. You should also watch out for its thermals given that it has three exhaust vents installed. Despite that, I like how it has a premium look and feel, as well as a little screen and keyboard flex, indicating that this device is very durable and well-built.

As part of its second-quarter 2019 refresh, ASUS recently unveiled its updated TUF Gaming FX505 laptops. But aside from the new Ryzen 7 processors and NVIDIA’s new GTX GPUs, the FX505DU looks virtually identical to the FX505DY we reviewed last month. What exactly has changed? Let’s check out its key differences from the FX505DY:

ASUS TUF Gaming FX505 is a good all-around gaming device. To be honest, it doesn’t offer anything special against the competition which in this class is pretty severe. This device’s main advantage is its price. However, this has hit the build quality of the product since they are some squeaks when compressing the body with your hands. In this aspect, the MSI GP63 Leopard 8RD feels better, even though it doesn’t have the best build quality either.

The Asus TUF Gaming FX505DT ensures that an essential set of components and features are delivered so that your gaming experience is pleasant. This includes the high-speed PCIe Gen3 SSD storage, discrete graphics card and a full HD display with a refresh rate of 120 Hz. It manages to run most of the gaming titles you throw at it comfortably, although at medium to high graphics settings. Having tested and used a few budget gaming laptops myself, I'd always find something or the other amiss in the design. This could be a poorly calibrated display or painfully slow storage. The FX505DT makes none of those mistakes and makes for a very satisfying gaming laptop, especially if you have a budget of Rs 80,000.

It’s no secret that getting a high-end laptop can cost you a lot of money. By this, we mean upwards of £1800. What the ASUS TUF Gaming Alliance FX505DV tries to do instead is to offer a solid gaming experience while at a price that will not be beyond the reach of the average consumer. This would’ve been a prime contender for our ‘Bang for Buck’ award, but we feel that this offers just enough in terms of performance and presentation to tip the scales into something a little more impressive! This laptop has style, performance, and certainly a brand name you can trust. Added together with the excellent CPU and GPU pairing, while this might be the first laptop I’ve encountered with a Ryzen processor, it’s a great product to kick things off and I’m certain it won’t be the last we see of them from ASUS.

Its competitive pricing is what primarily puts this laptop on the map, as the most affordable RTX 2060 notebook you can find in most countries. Despite that, this is a well-built device with a fast RGB keyboard, a 120 Hz IPS screen, and the ability to perform alright with daily use and FHD gaming. The Devil lies in the details, though, which include a washed-out panel and high CPU/GPU temperatures in games, but also a performance toll that the AMD platform takes over an Intel-based computer with the same kind of graphics power. All these are explained in the detailed review below.

Asus: ASUSTeK Computer Incorporated, a Taiwanese multinational company, produces motherboards, graphics cards, optical drives, PDAs, computer monitors, notebook computers, servers, networking products, mobile phones, computer cases, computer components, and computer cooling systems. The company's 2007 revenues reached US$6.9 billion. ASUS also produces components for other manufacturers. The Eee PC initiated the netbook boom in 2008.
In the notebook sector, Asus had a global market share of about 11% from 2014-2016, making it the fourth largest laptop manufacturer. In the smartphone sector, Asus is not among the Top 5 and has only a small market share (as of 2016).
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.
AMD Radeon RX 560X (Laptop): Renamed Radeon RX 560 with slightly altered clock speeds. Offers 1024 shader cores and a usual clock speed of 1175 - 1275 MHz.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Max-Q: Efficient mid-range graphics card for thin and light laptops based on the same GP107 chip as the normal GTX 1050 for laptops but at slower clock speeds. Offers a approx. 10 - 15% lower performance than the laptop GTX 1050 but at a much lower power consumption.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Mobile: Mainstream graphics card based on Nvidia's Pascal architecture and successor to the GeForce GTX 960M. Is manufactured in a 14nm process at Samsung and the technical specifications are very similar to the desktop version.
With these GPUs you are able to play modern and demanding games fluently at medium detail settings and HD resolution.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti Mobile: Mid range dedicated graphics card for laptops based on the desktop GTX 1660 Ti and therefore the Turing architecture without raytracing and Tensor cores. The performance of the Max-P variant should be similar to an older GTX 1070.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 Mobile: Mid range dedicated graphics card for laptops based on the desktop GTX 1650 and therefore the Turing architecture (TU117 chip in 12nm FFN) without raytracing and Tensor cores. Available with 896 and 1024 shaders.
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 Mobile: Mid range to high end laptop graphics card based on the Turing architecture with raytracing features and 1,920 shaders. Compared to the similar named desktop card it offers reduced clock rates.
