Deal | Asus TUF A16 AE with AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS and RX 7700S dGPU slides under $1,100

While the market prepares to welcome AMD’s  upcoming Strix Point mobile APUs with Zen 5 cores and a more diversified offer integrating the Hawk Point Ryzen 8000HS APUs, prices for laptops powered by the Phoenix generation are taking a considerable dive, resulting in some compelling deals at select retailers. Best Buy, for one, has the Asus TUF A16 Advantage Edition hitting its lowest price of only $1,099.99.

For this price point, the all-AMD gaming laptop offers last year’s top-of-the line Ryzen 9 7940HS APU from the Phoenix generation, complemented by a midrange Radeon RX 7700S dGPU with dedicated 8 GB GDDR6 VRAM and 120 W maximum TGP. The configuration is solid, including a 1 TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD and an excellent 16-inch IPS display with 2560 x 1600 @240 Hz resolution, 3 ms response time, 500 nit brightness, 100% DCI-P3 color gamut, FreeSync Premium plus a MUX switch.

There are only a few small minuses, like the DDR5-4800 specs for the 16 GB of RAM (upgradable to 32 GB), the 720p webcam and the wireless connectivity capped at Wi-Fi 6 + BT 5.3 specs. Otherwise, the build is sturdy, with military grade reinforcements, despite the entire system weighing only 4.85 lbs (2.2 kg), which also includes a hefty 90 Wh battery.

Port selection is future proof enough with a USB4 connector, 1x USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 (DP and PD modes), 2x USB-A 3.2 Gen 1, HDMI 2.1 video out, GbE and audio jacks. Due to the relatively thicker profile, the cooling system is quieter and more efficient. As usual, Best Buy is throwing in a 3-month Xbox Game Pass Ultimate for free.
