Asus ROG Zephyrus GA503 with Ryzen 9 5900HS, GeForce RTX 3070, and 1440p 165 Hz display now available for $1799 USD

Both AMD and Nvidia are starting out the new year with a bang by simultaneously launching their respective 4th generation Ryzen CPUs and mobile Ampere GPUs for the latest gaming laptops. The first models have already begun hitting store shelves and now we can add Asus to the list as Best Buy has opened up pre-orders for the 2021 15.6-inch Asus Zephyrus GA503.

Unveiled earlier this month, the Asus laptop will sport high-end components including a Ryzen 9 5900HS CPU, GeForce RTX 3070 GPU, and a Pantone-calibrated QHD (2560 x 1440) matte display with full DCI-P3 coverage, 3 ms response times, and a fast 165 Hz refresh rate. Raw processor performance is expected to be faster than even the fastest gaming laptop of 2020 powered by a mobile Intel Core i9 CPU.

The chassis is essentially an updated 15.6-inch version of last year's 14-inch Zephyrus G14. Nonetheless, we've yet to review the system ourselves and so we can't provide any personal impressions. The RTX 3070 GPU, for example, can operate at specific TGP ranges that would require in-house testing because product pages do not usually advertise such values. Note that the Zephyrus GA503 is "only" an upper mid-range Asus gaming laptop compared to the even pricier Zephyrus S GX series.

Immediate drawbacks to this laptop are its lack of Thunderbolt support and an integrated webcam.
