Asus' budget-midrange Strix G series laptop is $300 off for high performance-per-dollar. Its GTX 1650 GPU is comparable to the GTX 1060 in DX11 titles and up to 15 percent faster if on DX12.

Even entry-level graphics cards these days are able to run the latest titles at native 1080p. For most gamers on a budget, smooth 1080p gaming is good enough especially if they are uninterested in fancy graphical features.

Best Buy is currently running a sale on the Asus ROG G531GT budget gaming laptop for just under $700 USD or a full $300 off the original asking price. The system includes some respectable hardware such as the hexa-core Core i7-9750H CPU, GeForce GTX 1650 GPU, 1080p IPS display, and a sizable 512 GB SSD. Most other gaming laptops in this price range tend to come with slower quad-core Core i5 or Ryzen processors instead.

There are a couple of cut corners worth mentioning. Firstly, the system comes with just 8 GB of RAM and upgrading can be tricky. Secondly, the 1080p display appears to be a basic 60 Hz offering without the silky smooth 120/144 Hz refresh rate or 3/5 ms response times. Otherwise, you're getting a decently powerful and well-made plastic chassis.

The Asus ROG G531 is the budget version of the more expensive Asus ROG Strix Scar III G531GW. See our review on a version of the laptop here to get a full rundown on the pros and cons and what it has to offer.
