Reviews for the Asus G750JZ-XS72

The ROG G750JZ-XS72 is a fine edition to Asus's reliably high-quality Republic of Gamers line, thanks to its quality construction, long battery life, and strong performance. But shoppers willing to spend $3,000 on a gaming laptop have plenty of options to choose from, from the more affordable Digital Storm Krypton, our Editors' Choice for midrange gaming laptops, to the powerhouse that is the Editors' Choice for high-end gaming laptops, the Origin EON17-SLX. All of these options mean that the Asus ROG G750JZ-XS72 is a very good gaming laptop, but it's one of many, failing to really distinguish itself, despite a generous feature set and solid performance.

The Asus line of gaming laptops has always offered excellent high-end configurations, along with custom software and hardware tweaks. This latest version of the G750 bets on Nvidia's brand-new line of GPUs, and includes the current top-end card for great gaming performance.

All in all, it's easy to praise the G750JZ-XS72 (with, as we said, the mental reservation that those who don't need to burn DVDs and for whom 24GB of RAM is ample can save $500 by stepping down to the DS71). Probably in three years we'll be celebrating similar frame rates in something as svelte as an ultrabook, but for now, as long as you're shopping the superheavyweight gaming category, it's hard to do better.

With its new Nvidia GeForce GTX 880M GPU, the ASUS G750JZ is one of the mightiest gaming laptops on the market. At $2,999, it's not cheap, but this rig delivers some of the best gaming scores we've seen yet. Hardcore gamers may want to wait and see what sort of performance competing systems from Alienware and MSI deliver, but for those who want the best right away in a rad design, the G750JZ won't disappoint.

This configuration is impressive, ranging from the 2.4GHz quad-core i7-4700HQ processor (Mobile Intel HM87 chipset), with 32GB of RAM and a dedicated NVIDIA GeForce GTX 880M graphics card with 4GB of fast GDDR5 memory, along with two installed 128G SSDs (in RAID 0 mode) and a 1TB SATA drive at 7200RPM. WiFi and Bluetooth are also provided, and although high quality Killer Wireless-N 1202 controller is used, we would prefer a newer one that supports 802.11ac standard. This laptop leaves behind the competition and many desktop computers, and it is able to run the most demanding games in Full HD resolution. A built-in 5900mAh battery provides up to 6.5hrs of average use.
Positive: Attractive design; quality construction; very good Full HD display; extremely good performance. Negative: Heavy.

Model:
Gamers with deep pockets looking for a viable option in gaming on the go must seriously consider the Asus G750. This beast features the best graphics processor for laptops today with the Nvidia GeForce GTX 880M. It will not have any problems running the latest and most resource hungry games. The graphics card is accompanied by a 4th generation i7 processor, a whopping 32 GB of RAM and twin 256 GB SSD. Speed and performance will not be a problem with this device.
All that power is nothing without a good display. The Asus G750 comes with a 17.3-inch display with 1920 by 1080 resolution, displaying all your pictures, videos and games in glorious FullHD. Its matte anti-glare finish also ensures you don’t have to worry glare from a light source.
In addition, it features a Blu-ray burner to give more bang for your buck. Battery life is always a major concern with gaming laptops. But the G750 will give you great speed and performance when playing the most demanding games and also better battery life than many other 17-inch gaming laptops.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 880M: High-end graphics card from the GeForce GTX 800M series.
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.

Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.
4700HQ: Haswell-based quad-core processor clocked at 2.4 GHz with Turbo Boost support up to 3.4 GHz. Offers an integrated HD Graphics 4600 GPU and a dual channel DDR3 memory controller.» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.
17.30": This display size is a standard format for desktop replacements (DTR). The DTR laptops are heavier to carry, need more power, but texts are easy to read and high resolutions are no problem. DTR are mainly intended for stationary desk use, where weight and energy hunger don't matter. In return, you enjoy the advantages of high resolutions (more details, better legibility).» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.
4.5 kg:
A laptop in this weight range is a heavyweight that you rarely carry around. This is meant for desktops and the devices tend to score with a large display and high performance and replace desktop devices.
