If you got yourself a MacBook with a single USB-C port or are thinking of buying one of the new MacBook Pro models, Apple just introduced recently, you will most likely be in need of a USB-C docking station if you are sick of handling all of the necessary adapters in combination, which Apple is being criticized for forcing its customers into with their latest MacBooks. But even if you have another laptop with USB-C ports you might be looking for a universal docking station.
Compatibility
Bourge Design recently unveiled their Arc Hub, a mobile and universal 7 in 1 USB-C Hub that is compatible with the MacBook and the MacBook Pro thanks to its two USB-C ports, that are also Thunderbolt 3 compatible. At the moment, Bourge Design also lists the following laptops as being compatible with the Arc Hub: HP Spectre, Chromebook Pixel, Dell XPS 13 & 15. More will surely follow.
Connections
The Arc Hub specsheet lists two USB-C ports that are capable of delivering up to 90 Watt. The Arc also offers two USB 3.0 (Type A) ports, one HDMI port, that can deliver 4K@60 Hz and seems to be HDMI 2.0 compatible. There will also be a mini Display Port. Last but not least the manufacturers added a SD-card reader as well. Apart from a dedicated LAN port every port currently missing from the new MacBook Pro will be covered by the Arc Hub while retaining portability thanks to its less than 10 cm diameter and its height of less than 20 cm.
Available in January
Bourge Design says they are in the last stages of production and expect to ship in January of 2017. Preorders are available on their website for $105, certainly not the cheapest solution available but Bourge Design promised to deliver high quality components that were stress-tested for proper operation. Currently they offer a $10 discount using the LAUNCH10 voucher code.
