Apple confirms iPadOS 16 and macOS Ventura release dates

Apple has finally confirmed availability for iPadOS 16 and macOS Ventura, months after debuting both OS updates. Announced alongside the iPad (10th Gen) and two new iPad Pro tablets, the pair will start shipping on October 24, with iPadOS 16 available before any new iPads start shipping. In other words, today's trio of iPads should all ship with the latest version of iPadOS.

According to Apple, iPadOS 16 supports all iPad Pro models, as well the iPad Air 3, iPad 5 and iPad mini 5 or newer. Arguably, the biggest change between iPadOS 15 and iPadOS16 is Stage Manager, which is compatible with all iPad Pro models released since 2018 and the latest iPad Air. Additionally, iPadOS 16 brings improved external monitor support to iPads, as well as a dedicated weather app and Matter integration within the Home app.

Meanwhile, macOS Ventura is compatible on all iMac, MacBook and MacBook Pro models announced from 2017 onwards. Conversely, support only stretches back to 2018 for the Mac mini and MacBook Air, while all Mac Pro machines sold before 2019 have been dropped. Like iPadOS 16, macOS Ventura supports Stage Manager and a dedicated weather app. Furthermore, Apple has ported the Watch app to macOS and has revised its Spotlight search functionality.
