The 2020 MacBook Air may already be two years old, but the blazing-fast Apple M1 SoC and a considerably discounted price arguably give this 13-inch laptop one of the best price-to-performance ratios that Cupertino has to offer these days.

The just-announced 2022 iPad Pro M2 and the new entry-level 10th generation iPad may be the most controversial conversational topic among Apple fans these days, but many regular users may be more interested in replacing their aging notebook with an affordable Apple laptop like the 2020 MacBook Air. Fortunately, this device has now dropped to its lowest price yet thanks to a steep discount at the largest online retailer in the world.

To be more precise, the e-commerce behemoth from Seattle currently sells the aforementioned MacBook Air with the fast Apple M1 SoC and 8GB of soldered LPDDR4X memory for just US$799, which is a massive US$200 or 20% discount in relation to the official list price of US$999. This base configuration also comes with the fairly small and non-replaceable 256GB SSD, but on a more positive note, the offer is valid for all three color variants - Space Gray, Silver and Gold. According to the price tracker at Camelcamelcamel, the Apple MacBook Air M1 has never been cheaper, as it has been offered for an average price of slightly over US$930 since its release two years ago.

We've already put the MacBook Air with the Apple M1 processor through its paces as part of our comprehensive review procedure. We found that this affordable 13-inch machine stays cool despite featuring a fan-less design, and we also liked the excellent build quality as well as the iconic design. We further praised the speakers and the performance of native applications that run really well on Apple's ARM architecture. All in all, the MacBook Air M1 is an excellent choice for budget-conscious users who don't need the extra power that is offered by the more expensive Apple MacBook Pro 14. Even in comparison to the newer 2022 MacBook Air M2, this laptop undoubtedly has a superior price-to-performance ratio thanks to the considerable 20% discount.
