The Gigabyte Aorus 17X is an absolute beast. When it isn't pumping out 60fps of ray-traced FHD graphics on its gorgeous display, it multitasks resource-intensive projects like a professional desktop. One of the most powerful gaming laptops we've tested, it's price-to-power ratio makes it an objectively great value - but only if you can stomach the initial price tag.

Gigabyte's impressive Aorus 17 line of gaming laptops distinguishes itself from a lot of competitors with the excellent mechanical keyboard it added to the year's models. That, plus its better-than-average performance and big, 17-inch 240Hz display make it a solid choice as a desktop replacement for the work-from-home, speed-minded gamer. But if you plan to shell out the big bucks -- over $3,000 -- for the higher-end configurations, you might find some of its limitations annoying given the expense.

We've yet to see a gaming laptop that perfectly balances performance, price and size, but the Gigabyte Aorus 17x gives it a good go. If you have plenty of money to spend and you want the best laptop specs in return, then it's one to put on your shortlist of options.

An expensive beast of a gaming machine, but one with some seriously pleasing specs and plenty of highlights that make it worthwhile to consider if you want a desktop replacement.

The Aorus 17X is expensive and heavy but when it comes down to performance there is no denying this thing is a behemoth. Throw games, work and more at this thing and it will handle it with ease. Make sure you have a comfy set of headphones though as the noise of the cooling solution will drive you mad. Overall the Aorus 17X is a fantastic desktop replacement if you're the type that once went to LANs and hopes to go again in the future. Great showing from Gigabyte here.

This all comes with a cost of course, and it's a high one. Check the widgets on this page for the latest pricing, but at the time of writing you're looking at paying very close to £4,000 or $4,000 to get your hands on this beast of a laptop. In other words, you can buy a decent car for the price of the Gigabyte Aorus 17X, but if you're keen for your hard-earned money to go towards one of the most powerful gaming laptops on the planet, then this is where you want to invest.

With its 360-Hertz panel, RGB keyboard, and Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 Ti, the Gigabyte laptop is fully designed for gaming. At the same time, the Intel processor used and the amount of RAM also offer abundant power. How exactly this turns out will be shown by our benchmarks and gaming tests.

Gigabyte completely redesigned the Aorus 17X this year, and after my low rating of last year’s model, it definitely needed a change. So let’s find out what’s new and if this year’s 17X is worth it!

The Gigabyte Aorus 17X is a great gaming laptop with excellent performance. This is top-of-the-line internal hardware in a chassis with great build quality and a surprisingly sleep design. Of course, this 17-inch, just-over-six-pounds gaming laptop doesn’t perform quite as well as an 18-inch gaming laptop that’s over nine pounds in weight. But both of those laptops won’t perform as well as a high-end desktop PC, either. Portability is a spectrum. The display gives me the most pause here. This laptop costs about $3,700 at full retail price, and the screen only offers about 300 to 400 nits of brightness. Many people will prefer a brighter screen. In fact, many people may prefer the more vivid picture on an OLED screen if they’re looking to spend nearly $4,000 on a laptop.
