Alleged iPhone 13 screen protector showcases redesigned notch
Every year, we hear rumours about the next iPhone coming with a smaller (or no) notch. Based on what we've seen so far, Apple seems quite content with its design. This time around, however, the iPhone 13 could actually ship with a narrower notch if a new leak from Twitter is to be believed. The attached images also reaffirm a leak from earlier which told us the same thing.
Twitter user DuanRui posted an image of what appears to be an iPhone 13 screen protector. The leaker even superimposes it against an iPhone 12 to highlight the difference between the notch sizes. It also sheds light on some design changes that Apple has implemented to make the notch smaller.
Every iPhone since the iPhone X has had more or less the same notched display, with the earpiece positioned at its centre. This time around, Apple has moved it a bit upwards, making room for the bevvy of other sensors and selfie camera. While the notch may be a bit narrow than previous iterations, it could be a tad deeper.
One would think that three years would be enough for Apple to go completely notch-free. That will happen by 2023 if an industry analyst is to be believed. However, the need of the hour is a form of biometric authentication that doesn't rely on your face. Face ID might be secure and all, but it is of little use when everyone has to wear face masks.
