The Alienware m17 R3 is a uniquely styled gaming laptop with an extreme high-refresh screen for hardcore players. It's a pricey but top-quality package with the capacity for colossal power and plenty of configuration options.

The Alienware m17 R3 is a beautiful machine and a capable gaming rig, but it's held back by a mix of old and new – old-school battery performance limits your mobility when gaming, and the decision to use high-end Intel hardware didn't quite translate into the sort of performance we expect at this premium pricing tier. Even some of the forward-thinking features had their issues: the Tobii eye tracker, for example, which sounds awesome, but left this reviewer cold, and the trackpad, which had issues with basic fingertip tracking.

The Alienware m17 R3 is very quick, with a top-notch 300Hz screen, a great keyboard and typically impressive design, but it’s middling in some areas, it’s expensive and the high-end hardware will be overkill for lots of users.

Alienware’s brilliant 15-inch gaming beast, the M15, just got a little bit better thanks to design tweaks and new components. But, it’s still painfully pricey.

The Alienware m17 R3 lives at the intersection of beauty and power. The laptop is one of the lightest desktop replacements on the market and sports a sophisticated design you don’t often see in gaming laptops. But beyond its stunning good looks, you have a laptop loaded with some seriously powerful components that deliver the high level of performance you’d expect from a notebook of this caliber. Throw in a lovely 4K display and a comfortable keyboard and you’ve got the makings of a good time.

17.30": This display size is a standard format for desktop replacements (DTR). The DTR laptops are heavier to carry, need more power, but texts are easy to read and high resolutions are no problem. DTR are mainly intended for stationary desk use, where weight and energy hunger don't matter. In return, you enjoy the advantages of high resolutions (more details, better legibility).» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.
2.97 kg:
With this weight, a laptop is rather heavier than average. Devices in this range shine more with screen size and performance than with mobility.
Alienware: Alienware was founded in the USA in 1996. The European headquarters is located in Ireland. Alienware has been part of the Dell Group since 2006. As with every brand, there are also some points of criticism with Alienware. Some customers have complained about the high prices of the products, while others have criticized the quality of customer services. There have also been some reports of problems with the reliability and durability of some Alienware products. However, many customers have also had positive experiences with the brand and appreciate the powerful gaming computers.
80%: This rating is not earth-shattering. This rating must actually be seen as average, since there are about as many devices with worse ratings as better ones. A purchase recommendation can only be seen with a lot of goodwill, unless it is about websites that generally rate strictly.
