Alienware m15: Dell announces a new configuration with a Core i9-8950HK, an RTX 2080 Max-Q and a 144 Hz display
Dell only refreshed the Alienware m15 two weeks ago, but the company has already added a new, albeit well-hidden, configuration. Announced at CES last month, the m15 initially could be configured with up to a Core i9-8950HK processor and a GeForce RTX 2080 Max-Q GPU but only a 60 Hz 4K panel, with the 144 Hz 1080p display reserved for cheaper variants.
However, a Twitter user prompted Frank Azor to make a change within just two days that should please bleeding-edge gamers. The m15 can now be configured with a Core i9-8950HK processor, an RTX 2080 Max-Q GPU and a 144 Hz display, but best of luck finding it. The new configuration does not have a dedicated order code on the Dell US website and is hidden under the anorn5ch002h model instead, which the company equips with a Core i7-8750H, an RTX 2060, and a 60 Hz 1080p display by default.
Configuring the model with an RTX 2080 Max-Q then allows you to add a Core i9-8950HK, which we have detailed below. Please keep in mind that you can only find this new configuration by first selecting the anorn5ch002h, it is not available with any other m15 variant on the Dell US website. By contrast, Dell UK lists two comparable models on its website, the n00awm1530 and n00awm1531. Oddly, the two versions are seemingly identically equipped, but the latter is £500 more expensive.
The new model costs US$3,279.99, but you can add US$880 if you include a 90 Wh battery, dual 1 TB PCIe SSDs and 32 GB RAM. You can see the full list of options here.
