Aldi has announced that it will shortly launch the Robotic Mower as a Specialbuy in its UK stores. Images of the product reveal that it is in fact the Yard Force MB400 under a different name.
The Aldi Robotic Mower will launch in UK stores on May 1st priced at £199.99. The Yard Force MB400 has a £449.99 RRP, meaning Aldi customers get a £250 or 55% discount. At the time of writing, this is the lowest price currently offered for the product; the next cheapest retailers are Wilko (£379) and Amazon (£399.99).
As you might expect at this price point, the Yard Force MB400 has a relatively basic feature set and is designed for smaller gardens measuring around 400 m² (~4,300 ft²) in size. The Aldi mower has simple navigation technology, requiring you to lay a boundary wire measuring up to 100 m (~330 ft) long to help the robot move around your lawn. There are also said to be sensors to detect and avoid obstacles or to detect tilting our accidental turning over, and it can tackle slopes with an up to 30% incline. It has a 16 cm (~6.3 inch) cutting width with three steel blades. Plus, if you run the mower regularly, the tiny grass clippings that are left on the lawn could act as a natural fertilizer.
The 20V/2.0Ah lithium-ion battery allows the mower to run for around an hour on a single charge, with a full recharge taking 100 minutes. The robot can intelligently return to the charging station as needed, and the dock comes with a clip-on cover to provide some protection against bad weather. Thanks to Bluetooth connectivity, you can remotely control the robot via the CloudHawk smartphone app; it is worth noting that this gets poor reviews on the Apple Store and Google Play, although the majority of these comments are from over a year ago. In the app, you can set up a mowing schedule and adjust settings like the cutting height, with options between 20 and 55 mm (~0.8 and 2.2 inches).
There will be a limited quantity of stock of this Aldi Robotic Mower Specialbuy, with the company noting that ‘once they’re gone, they’re gone’. It also appears that customers will only be able to purchase one unit each.
