When it comes to easy-to-recommend laptops, the MacBook Air has long reigned supreme. Thanks to the unforeseen efficiency and passively cooled performance afforded by Apple Silicon, the MacBook Air will most likely continue to be a solid recommendation for folks on the hunt for a premium affordable laptop. Thanks to a recent discount on Amazon, the 15-inch MacBook Air with 16 GB of memory and 256 GB of storage can now be purchased for an all-time low price of just $1,049 on the platform.
As mentioned, the Apple M4 SoC is undoubtedly an absolute screamer of a chip that does not sacrifice on efficiency. With a 10-core CPU, the M4 is well ahead of Intel's Lunar Lake offerings, and its 10-core GPU allows it to outpace the Arc 140V iGPU by as much as 20% in certain benchmarks. For the vast majority of workloads that are moderately intensive, the M4 MacBook Air should easily suffice. The SoC now comes with 16 GB of memory as standard, although the 256 GB of internal storage remains appalling, especially by 2025 standards.
The 15-inch MacBook Air boasts an IPS display with a resolution of 2880 x 1864, which manages to cover 98.7% of the DCI-P3 color gamut. However, the refresh rate is limited to 60 Hz, unlike its Pro counterpart which can ramp up to 120 Hz allowing for a noticeably better experience. Of course, the laptop sports excellent battery life, and according to our in-depth review, the system lasts for around 16 hours and 28 minutes when surfing the internet on WiFi with display brightness set to 150 nits.
All told, the M4-equipped Apple MacBook Air 15 packs commendable value, especially at its current sale price on Amazon. For those who are comfortable with macOS, the MacBook Air is an easy recommendation, given that performance and display expectations are moderate and gaming is far from a priority.
