Intel's NUC 13 Extreme features an Intel Core i5-13600K, a Z690 motherboard, and a 750 W SFX PSU. Buyers just need to bring their own RAM and storage, but also have the option to add a triple-slot graphics card due to the generous amount of internal space.

The Intel NUC 13 Extreme barebones kit is currently down to just $499.99 at B&H. At 13.3 x 12.5 x 5.1 inches (337 x 318 x 129 mm), it's not exactly the most compact mini PC; however, it can accommodate a triple-slot 12-inch graphics card,  potentially making it an enticing buy for gamers. Thanks to the 750 W PSU, you won't be too limited when it comes to the GPU choice either.

The machine comes equipped with a Raptor-Lake Intel Core i5-13600K with six P-cores and eight E-cores. Aside from the PCIe 5.0 x16 slot, there are three M.2 2280 slots, four SATA ports, and two DDR5 SODIMM memory slots.

Next to the power button, you'll find a 20 Gbps USB-C port, a pair of 5 Gbps USB-A, and a 3.5 mm audio combo jack. Around the back, there are two Thunderbolt 4 ports, six 10 Gbps USB-A, two LAN ports (1x 10 Gbps + 1x 2.5 Gbps), HDMI 2.1 limited to TMDS, as well as another three 3.5 mm audio jacks. Completing the package is an Intel Killer AX1690i wireless card with support for Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3.

Be sure to also check out our review of the Intel NUC 13 Extreme Raptor Canyon mini PC. Although the unit we tested was equipped with the higher-end Core i9-13900K, you do always have the option to upgrade the CPU thanks to the socketed LGA 1700 motherboard. We liked the NUC's premium case and modern connectivity options, with the main drawback being that the M.2 slots are rather difficult to reach due to their placement on the back of the Compute Unit's PCB.
