The Travelmate P6 P614 is a bit of an underdog within the business ultraportables' segment. It's larger and even somewhat dated when compared to the newer designs, but that allows it to compromise less on aspects like the build-quality, IO, thermals or overall practicality. The screen, typing-experience and hardware specs might not suffice for those of you shopping for the best of the best in the class, but then again, this doesn't compete at that level, but instead is a solid allrounder in the $1000- $1300 price range, with plenty of strong points and its share of quirks. We'll get in-depth on all these down below.

Any business laptop that comes out these days is entering a tough field full of very established players. The world is already stuffed full of ThinkPads and Latitudes, which have strong followings, cover price ranges across the board, and are highly attuned to what workers need.

Overall, Acer did a fine job with the TravelMate P6 despite a few flaws it has. It does makeup by being super lightweight, has a great Full HD display, plenty of security, and more.

At just over a thousand dollars, the Acer TravelMate P6 does seem to check all of the right boxes. In general, it's just an all-around solid PC. It has an ultra-light magnesium build while remaining stylish, a solid matte display, and a very good keyboard.

Acer's refresh of the TravelMate P6 is one of the rare business laptops that crams a generous number of ports into a thin-and-light chassis, making it a potential choice for travelers who can overlook its bloatware and stodgy styling.

The TravelMate P6 is made out of magnesium alloy, although it definitely feels more premium than many others that use the same material. And it's built to be sturdy, compliant with MIL-STD-810G and MIL-STD-810F standards. Acer says it can stand up to accidental drops, bumps at airport security, and more.

Certainly not a cheap notebook, however it is a very powerful offering that is capable of doing everything you ask and it does it all within a small footprint so easy to use at home, in the office, or on your travels. So the name is right this is a Travel Mate.

There’s a lot to like about the TravelMate: it’s lighter and cheaper than rivals, and it has superb connectivity and business features. Its battery life is brilliant, too; this machine will easily last a long day in the office and the commute, and if you’re careful you can coax it through most of a second day too.

In some areas, though, the Acer’s lower price does mean compromise. The screen is good enough for everyday work, but it doesn’t quite have the colour accuracy or gamut ability to handle colour-sensitive work tasks – the Dell or Apple machines are better. On the inside, several rivals offer significantly more CPU power, which means that laptops like the LG, Dell and Apple have more ability when handling multi-tasking scenarios and tougher work software.

Acer upgraded the TravelMate P6 lineup to offer 16:10 displays, Intel Evo-based Tiger Lake underpinnings, enhanced security, and more. We have a pre-production model of the TravelMate P614P-52 with us and have put it through its paces to see how exactly Acer plans to take on competing business laptops in 2021.

Acer’s latest TravelMate P6 is a delightful business laptop. It’s lightweight, and it’s stylish yet subtle. But as with any Acer PC, you just have to get past the bloatware, which can be done by uninstalling software or installing a clean build of Windows 11. It comes in an a black aluminum-magnesium chassis that weighs in at 2.2 pounds, or just less than one kilogram. That makes it super easy to carry, and it doesn’t compromise on performance or ports, offering 11th-gen vPro processors, modern ports like Thunderbolt 4, and legacy ports like USB Type-A.

As far as business notebooks go, the TravelMate P6 is punching above its weight despite looking rather buttoned-down. That said, it is by no means a low priced option, with pricing for the P6 ranging between R21 699 and R25 999 depending on the retailer. At that price point, we wanted a few more premium elements to be added to the mix. That said, the P6 still performs well and is certainly one of the better business notebook options out there.

If you’re looking for a premium 14-inch business laptop for your daily grind, the Acer TravelMate P6 is worth a gander. In my testing, there was plenty of power under the hood to accommodate my weekly hustle, and I love the minimalist chassis design. Granted, the persnickety pairing of Intel’s 13th-Gen Intel Core i5-1335U CPU and integrated Iris Xe graphics leaves this laptop wanting in terms of overall performance (especially in the graphics department), but if your workday relies heavily on productivity apps and the web with modest multimedia expectations, it'll handle your workload just fine. Moreover, the oversized touchpad and comfy Chiclet keyboard make this laptop an excellent choice for frequent travelers.

We like the Acer TravelMate P6 (TMP614-53) because it’s a compact and light machine but at the same time, its performance is also on point. The cooling system with two small fans and a duo of heat pipes gets the job done even in prolonged periods of 100% CPU load. Then, the optional Core i7-1355U can sustain high CPU clocks. We have tested a lot of machines with this processor and the Acer device is the first one that can maintain 2.63 GHz for the P cores in heavy loads. On top of that, we are talking about a 14-incher that performs better in some tests than other 16-inch laptops with the same team Blue chip. The I/O looks good with its two Thunderbolt 4 ports and MicroSD card reader. The memory is soldered but that’s something normal for a modern light and thin device. Unfortunately, there is just one M.2 slot for Gen 4 SSDs. The battery life is another key selling point of this machine.

As it stands, the Acer TravelMate P6 14 makes for a respectable portable productivity oriented laptop for the corporate elite. It offers solid build quality suitable for life on the road, a large and vibrant touch display, a fair variety of ports, good performance for crunching paperwork and decent battery life. Many of its security oriented features are primarily oriented for larger-scale companies that may need to manage entire fleets of laptops but are of equal value for mainstream users especially in how it can manage USB connections as well as secure folder and file management which enhances its appeal, especially for the security conscious.

There’s no doubting the fact that the Acer TravelMate P6 14 is a decent laptop. It’s lightweight, reasonably powerful, and comfortable to use. You are, however, paying a premium for enterprise-level security and IT management compatibility. Think of this laptop as a workplace-specific version of the more affordable Swift Go 14. If you were looking for a laptop purely for personal use, the Swift Go delivers identical performance. That being said, the TravelMate is miles cheaper than the special order Ultralight Dell Latitude. Regardless, if your workplace needs a fleet of enterprise-ready laptops, the TravelMate P6 is a decent choice.

Acer: In 1976, the company was founded in Taiwan under the name Multitech and was renamed Acer or Acer Group in 1987. The product range includes, for example, laptops, tablets, smartphones, desktops, monitors, TVs and computer peripherals. Since 2007, the group has merged with Gateway Inc. and Packard Bell, which also market their own laptop product lines.
Acer computers are designed for a variety of purposes, including ultrabooks for mobile use, gaming laptops for gamers, affordable options for everyday tasks, and 2-in-1 convertible laptops for versatility. Acer's product portfolio also includes tablets that offer portable computing and multimedia capabilities.
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.
Intel UHD Graphics 620: Integrated GPU (GT2, 24 EUs) found on some Kaby-Lake-Refresh CPU models (15 W ULV series). Technically identical to the previous Kaby-Lake GPU called HD Graphics 620.
NVIDIA GeForce MX250: Successor of the MX150 and still based on the same Pascal GP108 chip (similar to the desktop GT 1030) but with higher clock speeds. Available in two versions, a normal 25 Watt version and a low power version with 10 Watt TDP and reduced performance. The 25 Watt version e.g. offers a 21% higher boost clock than the old MX150 leading to a 5% performance gain.
Intel Iris Xe G7 96EUs: Integrated graphics card in Intel Tiger Lake G4 SoCs based on the new Gen. 12 architecture with 96 EUs (Execution Units / Shader Cluster). The clock rate depends on the processor model. The Tiger Lake chips are produced in the modern 10nm+ process at Intel.

14.00:
14 inch display size represents a middle ground between the small subnotebook formats and the screens of the standard 15 inch laptops.
The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, provides good resolutions with usable detail sizes, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact.
In the past, 14-inch devices were very rare, but now they are the standard for laptops after the 15-inchers.
