The EliteBook 1040 G11 sports higher performance compared to the HP Elite x360 1040 G11 since the non-2-in-1 sibling offers even better CPU clocks in both short and medium loads. Here, the Core Ultra 7 155H runs 8°C cooler when it’s pounded with heavy stress for a long time. The capabilities of the Intel Arc (8-Cores) are pleasantly boosted by the fast LPDDR5x-7467 MHz memory. The integrated graphics achieve around 120 FPS on Medium settings in CS2, a commendable result for an iGPU. The top-tier 1800p 120Hz OLED screen (Samsung ATNA40CU03-002 (SDC4197)) is a nice addition to the snappy performance of the laptop. The display boasts deep blacks, full sRGB, and DCI-P3 coverage alongside 622 nits of max brightness in HDR mode.

Power, efficiency, sleekness, and plenty of security measures—these are the hallmarks of the HP EliteBook 1040 G11. Designed for mobile professionals or anyone looking for an ultraportable laptop that goes hard on security, the G11 has something for everyone. Its slim, lightweight chassis is equal parts elegant and durable; its Intel CPU is more than capable of handling heavy-duty productivity tasks; and the anti-glare display and quad speaker system are sprinkles on an already stacked cake serving up unexpected levels of vibrancy and volume. It's no secret that Lenovo's legendary ThinkPad X1 Carbon is our favorite business notebook, but the HP's exemplary construction and feature set, plus the deep protection of Wolf Security, make it a very viable alternative.

With almost 19.5 hours of battery life and performance that rivals that of Apple’s M3 MacBooks, the HP Elitebook 1040 G11 5G is absolutely worth it. At the time of this review, this is the longest-lasting, non-ARM Windows laptop. At $2,099, it's a pricey laptop, but you get a lot in exchange for that high price tag: zippy performance, a battery that just won’t quit, ports galore, a satisfyingly responsive keyboard, and a super lightweight design that you’ll barely notice in a backpack. That said, it’s not perfect. If you need a laptop with the best speakers, a high-quality webcam, or a more interesting design, this probably isn’t the laptop for you. Instead, take a look at the M3 MacBook Pro.

On the surface, the EliteBook 1040 G11 may seem expensive for what you get. $2,099 for a laptop with a 48W power limit, 16GB of RAM, a 512GB SSD, and no discrete GPU is pretty pricey. Once again, though, this laptop is intended for enterprise road warriors that require the utmost reliability, durability, connectivity, port options and security, and many of the features that you're paying for with the EliteBook 1040 may not show up on a simple specs sheet. In short, this machine offers a bit more than just the sum of its parts. Because of its specific user target, it's difficult to gauge the machine's value in light of mainstream consumer laptops, but speaking empirically, the performance of the HP EliteBook 1040 G11 is solid and its battery life is outstanding.

The HP Elite x360 1040 G11 is a solid business laptop. It’s got the high performance, the sleek design, and the comfortable keyboard I’d want out of a laptop for work. However, the display and battery life aren’t cutting it. Not to mention that it costs over $2K. Better to be a security risk than flat broke. Try something like the Dell Inspiron 14 Plus, which offers double the battery life as well as a brighter and sharper display. Despite that, if you want all of those unique security features, the HP Elite x360 1040 G11 is a solid choice. (Just wait for a sale.)

This laptop has a specific target market: productivity workers, businesses, and security-conscious users. If you’re a business owner looking to purchase a fleet of secure laptops and can afford the high price tag, this laptop might work for you. It’s sleek and modern, performs well, and has about average battery life for a Windows laptop. It also has AI features if you’re looking to integrate AI into your workflow. If you’re not a business person but just an everyday consumer looking for a sleek laptop, then I’d definitely look at more consumer-targeted laptops, such as the Dell XPS series, the MacBook Air/Pro, or even the new Snapdragon powered PCs.

Business laptops are a different breed, offering more security and management features to accommodate the largest organizations. They also offer a wider range of configuration options and better warranties. HP’s EliteBook 1040 series has long been among the most impressive of these. The 2024 model continues that trend. The redesign is an attractive and well-built thin-and-light 14-inch laptop that can compete with the best out there. And HP’s Wolf Security suite lets you lock it down and manage it with a diverse set of tools. For the right buyer, the EliteBook 1040 is an excellent choice.

There are hardly any tablets in this display size range anymore. For subnotebooks, on the other hand, it is the standard format.
The advantage of subnotebooks is that the entire laptop can be small and therefore easily portable. The smaller display also has the advantage of requiring less power, which further improves battery life and thus mobility. The disadvantage is that reading texts is more strenuous on the eyes. High resolutions are more likely to be found in standard laptops.
