The biggest selling point of the Acer Spin 5 lies in its selling price. With a starting price of RM2,199, the Spin 5 is one of the more affordable 2-in-1s that you can get your hands on at this point in time. Apart from that though, the Spin 5 is a 2-in-1 that doesn't really have anything special going for it.

If you're in the US, you can grab the Acer Spin 5 at a great price right now: at $499 for the entry-level model it's highly competitive for this sort of laptop; at the time of writing you'll even find the 256GB SSD version for that price. It's a bargain.

Depending on the retailer you head to, the Acer Spin 5 will cost around R11 999, based on the internal processor setup. Given the solid pricing of this notebook, we'd advise going for the top of the range i7 model. If you do, you'll be getting a very handy notebook indeed.

Acer Spin 5 SP513-52N-54SF
The Acer Spin 5 SP513-52N-54SF has a lot to offer, including a fast SSD, a backlit keyboard, and a powerful quad-core ULV processor. The ultra-slim and super light Spin 5 convertible laptop functions like a traditional laptop but with the hands-on, tactile user experience of a tablet. A user can just rotate the revolutionary 360° Dual-Torque Hinge and watch this handy machine convert right in front of their eyes into a laptop, display, tent or tablet. Acer has equipped the Spin 5 with an Intel Core i5-8250U (Kaby Lake Refresh) quad-core processor. This is one of the energy-conserving ULV models. The processor runs at a base clock speed of 1.6 GHz. Its Turbo can increase the speed to up to 3.4 GHz. Thanks to the convertible laptop's fast 256 GB SSD and powerful processor, the system's behavior is smooth and stable. Intel's UHD Graphics 620 graphics core is responsible for the laptop's graphics output. This card supports DirectX 12 and runs at speeds of up to 1,100 MHz. The Spin 5 can run some games smoothly. This is primarily true of games that do not demand too much from the hardware. The Spin 5's 13.3-inch touchscreen display has a native resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels. The Spin 5's capacitive touchscreen supports 10 touch points. It gave no trouble and reacted to input immediately. It can be operated with fingers or with an active stylus which is available from Acer separately. The IPS panel that Acer has selected for the Spin 5 has stable viewing angles, allowing the user to view the screen content from any position. The convertible laptop can be used outdoors, as long as the sun is not shining too brightly. In addition to the display's low brightness, its glossy surface is a further disadvantage in outdoor use. The Spin 5's case is made of aluminum in the color steel gray. The device proves to be well-manufactured. The case's stability is mostly flawless, although the base unit could be a little more rigid. The stereo speakers are positioned above the keyboard, underneath a perforated covering. It is possible to enjoy audio content generated by the speakers over an extended period of time. Acer has also installed a full-fledged memory card reader that accepts SD cards. Acer has made significant updates to the Spin 5's array of ports. The SP513-52N is equipped with an HDMI connection and three USB Type-A ports (2x USB 3.1 Gen 1, 1x USB 2.0). The laptop also boasts a Type-C port (USB 3.1 Gen 1) that supports DisplayPort over USB-C. Using an adapter that can be purchased separately, this technology enables the Type-C port to function as a second video output. The Type-C port can also be used to charge the battery. All up, the Acer Spin 5 SP513-52N isn’t best in class, but is very competent in all areas. It’s well built, but a little heavy. The keyboard, trackpad and screen are great but not the best in the market. The tablet functionality works, but is obviously not as smooth as a Microsoft Surface. If the Acer Spin 5 was to be summed up in a word, it would simply be “good”.

In the end, the Acer Spin 5 is an average laptop which can perform well under certain situations but lacks in some. Some of you might not see the justifications for the price of this laptop but if you are willing to overlook all that and would like a convertible laptop with an accurate stylus, then this laptop will serve you well.

The Acer Spin 5 is a hybrid for the masses. It has a large screen but is not excessively heavy, is made of metal but is not intimidatingly expensive. And when not using its hybrid side it feels just like a normal laptop.

The Acer Spin 5 is reasonably priced for everything it offers. It has all the features most people need and more. While the stylus isn't its biggest selling point, it's a useful tool that adds value to the convertible notebook. If it's within your budget, I'd give it serious consideration, even if the plain styling and modest screen resolution isn't particularly flashy.

The diversity of laptop models on the market gets greater and greater. One can find standard notebooks, convertibles, laptops with a touch screen, and others. In this harsh market, every manufacturer has a different card up their sleeve. Acer can definitely use the screen of today’s device to their advantage. Its 96% coverage of the sRGB color gamut, combined with good color accuracy, especially with our profiles, is a good plus. In addition to that, the Spin 5 (SP513-52) comes with an adequate touchscreen which with the help of the adaptive stylus can be a deal maker. It’s cheaper than the Swift 5 (SF514-52) and it beats it in the screen department, whilst having the same hardware as the latter.

Acer Spin 5 SP513-52N-5210
In my opinion, if I am tight on budget my go to brand for laptops would be Acer. The reason is, when you don't have the money, all you care about is functionality and not looks or weight. Acer almost always delivers this. I mean it almost feels like you get the hardware yourself, tied up together and put in a case made of cheap plastic by a professional. But with this model surprisingly Acer provided a full metal case. But metal does not always mean a solid design. Anyways, Acer Spin 5 series are convertibles. With 16 mm thickness, it is thin compared to other brands such as Asus or HP. It comes with DDR4 RAM whereas most of Asus laptops still come with DDR3. What it lacks is not the performance, but the connections so to speak of. It does unfortunately not have any Thunderbolt 3 or USB 3.1. The screen is reflective. With around 1.6 kg, it is not light. For a convertible, in order to be able to use it in tablet mode, you should be able to hold in for a long periods, right? I am not going to be too criticizing about it, because most convertibles have this issue. Then I beg the question of why convertibles? Asus Flipbook S series have some models that only weighs around 1 kg. If I had the money, I would go for them for example. But today, I am playing the scenario where I am tight on budget and I want a convertible. Pretty clear instructions. Would I buy the Acer Spin 5? Well, with its price tag, it competes with the Asus Vivobook Flip, HP Pavilion 14 x360, Lenovo Yoga 520. All are entry models in this segment. Their prices are close to each other. Even their specs are almost alike. Now it is left to decide which one tastes better. You would be surprised to read this, but Acer beats the competition in this entry level convertible segment my friends. It has better battery life, better calibrated screen and more. In terms of connectivity it may stay behind the line, but overall performance is what matters. The entry segment is where Acer shines most of the time. This is what happened in this showdown as well. This model is above 800 Euros which could be considered as a fair price for a usable convertible. I would have liked to have a pen, but beggars cannot be choosers. If you are tight on budget go for the Acer Spin 5 SKU which suits your needs. But if you have the chance to save up more, just know this, you will have more and better options. The Acer Spin 5 is a decent laptop that's worth considering for its good selection of features for the price, especially when it comes to connectivity and the quality of the keyboard and trackpad. On the downside you get merely average performance for the specs, an overly loud and uncomfortably warm fan, and a somewhat outdated design. Just don't factor Alexa into your purchase decision either way.

As our benchmarks show, the Spin 5 is not a gaming oriented computer but you probably knew that. On the other hand, it is more than capable of handling mixed productivity tasks. Users tackling web browsing, email, document writing, and spreadsheets are unlikely to tax the Spin 5 to the point of thermal saturation. These users can take advantage of the Core i5-8265U's higher boost clock over the Core i5-8250U for a more responsive experience. If heavy photo editing is on the menu, the soldered 8GB of RAM may be lacking. Acer, however, also offers a Core i7-8565U equipped variation with 16GB of RAM and a 512GB NVMe SSD for about $1,200. That is still a great price for that kind of horsepower.

Acer seems to have taken the lukewarm reception of its Spin laptops to heart; The Spin 5 appears to be an improvement over its predecessor in every way. We're excited to see its 13.5-inch, 2K display and to test the included Wacom-powered stylus. From what we know so far, the Spin 5 could be the surprise laptop of 2020.

With the new Acer Spin 5 SP513, the manufacturer optimizes the 13.5-inch model of the versatile convertible. With Intel Ice Lake, the hardware has improved considerably and there are additional improvements. So has Acer created a convincing overall package here, or are there still some old or even new weaknesses? In addition, the Intel convertible also has to compete with a new AMD heavyweight.

The Acer Spin 5 is undoubtedly a powerful hybrid machine — it blew its fellow 2-in-1 competitors out of the water when it comes to display quality, overall performance and graphics. And despite being a thin-and-light convertible, the Spin 5 manages to offer an abundance of ports to fulfill all your connection needs. The Acer laptop even has a microSD reader, a convenient feature for content creators that seems to be growing more obsolete among laptops.

So, despite the unimpressive keyboard, we feel that the laptop delivers on what it promises. In fact, it is able to stand against the HP Spectre x360 13 (13-aw0000), which is significantly more expensive in some regions, and with the baller stylus with its Wacom technology, you will feel like a pro, without owning a “Pro”-branded product.

Since the Acer Spin 5 is more of a jack of all trades, I did not wish to pinpoint its flaws as such. However, I did find the sound a little lacking in spite of its front-facing speakers. The bloatware (unwanted software included on a new computer or mobile device by the manufacturer) is definitely a bummer and the laptop would have done much better sans that. With a price tag around Rs 90,000, this one is definitely a hard-hitter on the pocket. But what you get for burning a hole in your pocket is a sleek, stylish and comfortable laptop. All in all, the Acer Spin 5 is a well-rounded, (well folded, to be cheeky) laptop and can cater to a wide audience. It’s super light to carry and you actually don’t need an iPad when you have this with you. The battery lasts you a good 6 hours of continuous usage though claimed is 11 hours and I assume this means putting the ignition on and not really driving forward.

The Acer Spin 5 is finally something special. With its taller screen, compact lightweight metal body, excellent performance and overall fine feature set, it has just about everything you'll find on competing premium two-in-ones. There's still some room for improvement, but no real deal breakers.

The Acer Spin 5 is priced at Rs 84,999, which seems quite reasonable given the specs it is packing. Its 2-in-1 functionality and included stylus do make it a very interesting proposition for creators on-the-go. I was particularly impressed with the excellent touch response on the screen and the vivid colours it displayed. The new Intel 11th-gen CPUs give you a performance boost for the short run while the Evo architecture does allow for good Thunderbolt 4 connectivity. Battery life is excellent and the speakers are reasonably good. Issues with the webcam quality and keyboard ergonomics are some of the aspects that plague the Spin 5, but overall it will be hard to find a better workhorse for the price.

Acer: In 1976, the company was founded in Taiwan under the name Multitech and was renamed Acer or Acer Group in 1987. The product range includes, for example, laptops, tablets, smartphones, desktops, monitors, TVs and computer peripherals. Since 2007, the group has merged with Gateway Inc. and Packard Bell, which also market their own laptop product lines.
Acer computers are designed for a variety of purposes, including ultrabooks for mobile use, gaming laptops for gamers, affordable options for everyday tasks, and 2-in-1 convertible laptops for versatility. Acer's product portfolio also includes tablets that offer portable computing and multimedia capabilities.
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.
