The Acer Predator Helios 18 AI is a beefy brute of a gaming laptop that’s one of the most powerful we’ve tested, plus it has a sublime 18-inch Mini LED that’s top of its class, a solid port selection and a snappy keyboard and trackpad to boot. You will wince at its cost and poor battery life, though. Intriguingly, in spite of being more expensive than either the Alienware 18 Area-51 and Medion Erazer Beast 16 X1 Ultimate (RTX 5090), it’s not as fast marginally in the gaming tests in spite of having identical hardware and has the worst battery life of the three, although arguably makes up for it with a sharp 4K Mini LED screen. Nonetheless, it is a very fast laptop in any case, and it’s a surefire hit if you want a beefy and potent laptop and very deep pockets to afford it. As in many cases, the Acer Predator Helios 18 AI is not perfect. In the search for improved cooling, the manufacturer hardly got what he wanted, because the processor can heat up to over 100°C and fixes throttling. Fortunately, in everyday work and games this is almost imperceptible. On the other hand, this model offers many of its advantages in the form of an excellent display with mini LED backlight, an interesting design, good manipulators, a sufficient set of ports (including 5-gigabit RJ45), good speakers, etc. But the main advantage over many competitors will still be the ability to install up to 192 GB of RAM and three drives at once, which is practically impossible in many other cases.

The Acer Predator Helios 18 AI (PH18-I71) is a colossal desktop replacement built for users who want extreme mobile performance without pretending that this is a thin-and-light machine. It is huge, aggressive, heavy, and unapologetically gaming-focused — exactly what you would expect from an 18-inch Predator with a Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus, RTX 5090 Laptop GPU, and a Mini LED display. The CPU runs extremely hot under heavy sustained load, the fans can be clearly audible even when the system is not doing much, and the otherwise excellent Mini LED panel has aggressive PWM behavior that sensitive users should take seriously. This is a laptop with enormous strengths, but also with compromises that are impossible to ignore.

Acer: In 1976, the company was founded in Taiwan under the name Multitech and was renamed Acer or Acer Group in 1987. NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 Laptop: The GeForce RTX 5090 Mobile uses the GB203 chip and utilizes 10,496 shaders / CUDA cores of the maximum 10,752 that the chip has. This makes the RTX 5090 Laptop more similar to the RTX 5080 desktop variant (same chip) than the Desktop RTX 5090 with 20,760 cores and higher clock rates.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 Laptop: A fast graphics card from the Blackwell family for laptops that is based on the GB203 chip and uses 8,192 shaders and 16 GB GDDR7 graphics memory (256-bit graphics bus).
