The Acer Predator Helios 18 AI (PH18-73) is an unapologetic powerhouse that embraces its massive form factor to deliver a desktop-class experience. It’s a machine designed for the enthusiast who values screen real estate, expandability, and raw performance above all else. With its aggressive styling, vibrant RGB, and top-tier components, it screams “gamer” in the best possible way, offering an immersive platform for both play and heavy-duty work. However, this focus on brute force comes with a few trade-offs, particularly in thermal management for the CPU and portability. It’s a laptop that demands to be the center of your setup, not a travel companion.

If you're looking for a portable gaming laptop in the RTX 50-series generation with some solid battery life and okay performance, the Razer Blade 16 (2025) is the lightest and thinnest RTX 5090 laptop you can buy right now. Alternatively, if you want a desktop replacement gaming laptop that can be a great video editing laptop and a great gaming laptop, the Lenovo Legion Pro 7i Gen 10 is going to have a better balance of general productivity performance and gaming power. But if you want a new gaming rig with a gorgeous Mini-LED display, powerful Intel and Nvidia performance, and a fantastic keyboard, the Helios 18 AI with the RTX 5080 is actually a pretty good deal.

As in many cases, the Acer Predator Helios 18 AI is not perfect. In the search for improved cooling, the manufacturer hardly got what he wanted, because the processor can heat up to over 100°C and fixes throttling. Fortunately, in everyday work and games this is almost imperceptible. On the other hand, this model offers many of its advantages in the form of an excellent display with mini LED backlight, an interesting design, good manipulators, a sufficient set of ports (including 5-gigabit RJ45), good speakers, etc. But the main advantage over many competitors will still be the ability to install up to 192 GB of RAM and three drives at once, which is practically impossible in many other cases.
